New Occupations for Intermediate and Low-skilled Workers in Saskatchewan

by Nationwide Visas Canadian Immigration Expert

Are you looking for Canada PR specifically in Saskatchewan? Then, you’ll be glad to know that the province has added 279 new jobs of TEER 4 and 5 to its existing in-demand occupations list.

This has permitted intermediate and low-skilled workers in Saskatchewan to apply for the SINP program to gain PR through the Existing Work Permit stream.

This has been done to reduce labour shortages in the province.

If you are eyeing the Existing Work Permit stream, then remember - you have to meet both of the requirements of both, stream and the Saskatchewan PNP.

Before this happened, Saskatchewan only accepted permanent residence applications for workers with experience in occupations listed under NOC TEER 0,1,2, or 3 & designated trades.

Who is eligible to apply?

Those with minimum 6 months of work experience in Saskatchewan’s intermediate and lower-skilled occupations should meet the following requirements to qualify to apply:

  • Have a valid work permit.

  • Secure LMIA-approved work permit under TEER 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 jobs. Further, secure a francophone mobility work permit, or a Canadian Ukrainian Authorisation for Emergency Travel (CUAET) visa.

  • Get a valid job letter from an employer in Saskatchewan. It should be a permanent and full-time job.

  • Possess at least 6 months of work experience (full-time) in the same profession with the employer who has presented you with a job offer letter and a work permit.

  • Fulfil the IELTS requirement for Canada work permit and get CLB 4.

  • Attain an eligible licensure if your occupation is regulated in Saskatchewan (if applicable).

Who isn’t eligible to apply?

Listed below are the occupations that Saskatchewan has not added to the existing list and are, therefore, not eligible to be applied for:

  • Truck Drivers

  • Healthcare Professionals

  • Food and Beverage Servers

  • Graduates who are employed in Saskatchewan with a PGWP

  • Refugee claimants demanding refugee status in Canada

How to apply for an Existing Work Permit stream?

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Gather the required documentation

Here is a list of important documents you will need for the SINP application:

  • SINP Ethical Conduct Disclosure and Declaration form

  • Birth certificate

  • A valid passport

  • Saskatchewan licensure (if applicable)

  • Work experience

  • Language proficiency test (if TEER 4 or 5)

  • Employment offer letter

  • Work permit

  • IMM-0008 Generic Application Form for Canada

  • IMM-0008DEP Additional Dependents/Declaration (if applicable)

  • Schedule A: Background/Declaration

  • IMM-5406 Additional Family Information

Step 2: Create an online account

You can apply for the Saskatchewan Immigration Nominee Program (SINP) by creating an account on the official website.

Step 3: Fill out the PR application

The next step to apply for SINP is to completely fill out the application. Enter accurate details as misleading information can ultimately get your application refused or rejected. Along with this, you need to also scan and upload the supporting documents in PDF format (refer to the list of documents on the official website).

Step 4: Pay the required fee

When you submit your application, also pay the fee with it.

Step 5: Get your confirmation letter

Wait for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to send you a letter via email. This will be a confirmation that they have received your application.

If you get selected for provincial nomination, you will soon receive a nomination package via email. This will include a SINP nomination approval letter, a work permit support letter & details about the further steps you need to take with the permanent residence application with the Government of Canada.

After nomination, you will have 6 months to submit a complete PR application to IRCC.
