New York, London, Paris and… Richmond, Virginia? A new event named
Fashion Design and Art Week (FDAW) aims to significantly boost
Virginia’s fashion market and establish Virginia as a new center for
innovation in fashion design.
The three-day event, hosted by
Beauty by Destinee’ from January 14-16, 2016, will feature a runway show
and special presentations featuring collections from both established
and emerging fashion designers with ties to Virginia. You may also want
to check out FDAW's Fashion Lounge and Expo; featuring art, fashion
designs/products, textiles and an assortment of accessories.
A
highlight of FDAW will be the inaugural FDAW Awards, including the 2016
Fashion Designer of the Year Award, The 2016 Fashion Entrepreneur of the
Year Award. along with "3" Catwalk Slayer awards. All award winners
will be chosen by a select panel of judges, with the latter being
awarded to models displaying the best overall runway presence during the
event.
A social hour/meet and greet and a “Fashion Biz Series” of
talks aims to bridge the gap between designers, buyers, consumers and
members of the media, by facilitating dialogue with key players in the
East Coast fashion/arts industries.
FDAW founder says “FDAW
promises to showcase the best in fashion design and art that Virginia
has to offer. It will also be a platform for designers to maximize their
exposure within and beyond their industry networks, as well as open
gateways for more business opportunities.”
FDAW will choose a
beneficiary each year within a local charity, with 50% of all proceeds
going to the Virginia native non-profit Gray Haven. The event also aims
to place a special awareness on breast cancer.
