Saint
Louis, MO - A new documentary has gone into production that poses the
question, does America have a drinking problem? Patrick Branson,
director of the Award Winning Documentary America's Blues, thinks so and
he's determined to prove it. His new documentary, 'Please Drink
Responsibly', aims to look at the way alcohol use is portrayed in the
media and explore the harsh consequences that come with having a society
that, not only accepts alcohol abuse, but in many ways encourages it.
Branson
plans to travel all over the country and speak with leading experts in
the field of alcohol use and abuse as well as the effects that alcohol
advertising and promotion has on our youth and our society . The launch
of there new website at www.sobermovie.com features a 1 minute teaser of the film that just went into production last month.
Branson
said about the film, “I took my last drink of alcohol in October of
2014 while working on America's Blues and it wasn't until then that I
realized how much alcohol is in your face. Everywhere you turn there is
another advertisement telling you how great it is to drink their product
and how much fun you'll have, promoting the act of binge drinking
unnecessarily large amounts of alcohol. There is over one and a half
billion dollars a year spent on alcohol advertising and a large portion
of that is targeted towards young people. What isn't advertised is the
tremendous burden on individuals, families and society this alcohol
problem has, so I wanted to make a social awareness documentary that
will hopefully inspire change and make people become more aware of their
drinking habits and the harm they are doing to their body.”
