One of ParkerJones Acoustics main areas of work, is providing acoustic consultancy in the form of noise surveys and noise impact assessments for planning, particularly for residential developments. It is important that new residential dwellings are placed appropriately and mitigated to limit the ingress of noise from a nearby noise source such as a road or railway. This is necessary to allow residents to sleep in peace without disturbance for noise. Similar for other developments, adequate internal ambient noise levels are needed for students in schools to concentrate, and workers to communicate.

Industrial facilities must be positioned and controlled to limit noise pollution to existing residents. The predicted noise emissions from plant and machinery must be assessed against the baseline noise level, determined from a noise survey at the site and surrounding area.
