Neelam or Blue Sapphire Stone Price Guide

by Rashi Ratan designe, gemstones

Blue Sapphire is a gem affiliated to the planet Saturn governed by the Lord Saturn or Lord Shani. They are named under one of the most precious gems, the others being diamonds, rubies, and emeralds. The blue sapphire gemstone is a lot more powerful in its contribution in pulling all the cosmic energies than any other stone. It can change a person’s life completely either by prosperity or by destruction.

Sapphires symbolize power, nobility of thoughts, focus, spiritual insight, and success in any business or any venture of life.

Many factors determine the price of blue sapphire. Though there is no standard pricing guide or a chart by which sapphire can be rated.

COLOUR

1) Apart from their effects on a human body, the blue sapphires are adored for their colour.

2) Colour of blue sapphire (Neelam Stone) is quite attractive and captivating.

3) Basically, the sapphires are of varied colours. They are available in pink, purple, orange, yellow, green, and red. Though the name ‘sapphires’ is usually referred to as ‘blue sapphire’.

4) The hues of this gem ranges from green, purple and dull blue. All these colours are very close to the blue color of the spectrum. But as the color of the gem gets close to a true blue, the price range increases.

5) The true blue sapphires are the most expensive ones.

6) Even in the blue color range, if the gem is a dull blue or light blue, it is not the purest form of sapphire.

7) Only the medium to dark tones of blue colour are considered to be untainted and expensive.

8) Also the blue colour should be well condensed.

9) The blue color in the blue sapphire comes from the mineral Titanium that is one of the many minerals inside the crystal.

10) The higher the amount of titanium, the higher is the hue and tone of the blue color in the gem.

11) But too much of titanium lends the gem a blackish color which then loses its properties and value in the market.

INCLUSIONS

1) It’s practically impossible to have no inclusions in a natural gemstone.

2) The inclusions are a part of any stone. Precisely, the more the inclusions, the more are the chances of the stone to be a natural and expensive.

3) But a flawed gemstone also comes with unclear and less aesthetic depiction.

4) The more the clarity, the more the reflection of light passes through it and forms a small galaxy of stars which is usually seen by astrologers and gemologists. The clarity of the gem is directly proportional to its price tag.

CUT

1) Unlike diamonds, the sapphires do not have any specific cut or shape according to which it works or shines. Usually, they are shaped oval, emerald or round. In most orders, these are shaped in a slight dome that is convex on the outer half. It has no facets. This shape is known as the cabochon shape. This is again the costlier option in the market.

2) Jewelers give a cut and shape according to the tone of the gem.

3) If the tone of the sapphire is low, the jeweler will cut the stone a bit steeply so as to give an illusion of a medium-dark gem.

4) Whereas if the tone of the gem is a dark one, he will cut it very shallow to mirage it like a cool-toned medium-colored blue gem.

5) The cut is usually done to make the stone reflect more and more light through it when seen from a tangent.

6) The refractive index of the sapphire identifies the crystal whether it is real or not. All sapphires of different colors give the same reading.

WEIGHT

1) Studies on the stones suggest that one carat of sapphire is slightly smaller than one carat of diamond.

2) Considering this fact, the price gurus quoted that price of the sapphire must be measured by its size rather than its weight.

3) It was established that one-carat blue sapphire stone is 6 mm.

PLACES OF PROCUREMENT

1) Ceylon( Sri Lanka)and Madagascar produce the most expensive blue sapphires. in these days Ceylon blue sapphire is the perfect gemstone by astrologers.

2) Then comes the sapphires of Kashmir. After Kashmir, Myanmar is a place where they are omnipresent.
