An Embedded system is an arrangement of computer software and hardware (user interface, display, Input/output interfaces, memory etc.) Embedded System requires a hardware platform which is built with a microprocessor. Normally an embedded system comprises memory, power supply, timers, system application specific circuits, processor, and serial communication ports. An Embedded System is an electronic system, which includes a single chip microcontroller like ARM or Cortex.  An example of Embedded System includes Cell Phone, Microwave Oven, MP3 Player, Digital Camera, etc.  Characteristics of an Embedded System include:

  •      High- Speed
  •      Low power dissipation
  •      Small size and low weight
  •      High Accuracy
  •      High Adaptability and Accessibility
  •      High Reliability

Just like a personal computer, an Embedded System Training to compromises of computer hardware, software and mechanical; components but in contrast to a personal computer it is designed to perform a specific task; whereas the personal computer is able to do different tasks.

Based on Performance and Functional Requirements, Embedded system can be classified as:

Ø  Real-time embedded systems

Ø  Stand alone embedded systems

Ø  Networked embedded systems

Ø  Mobile embedded systems

On the other hand, based on the performance of Microcontroller, Embedded system can be classified as:

Ø  Small scale embedded systems

Ø  Medium scale embedded systems

Ø  Sophisticated embedded systems

All Embedded system consists of customer-built hardware components supported by a CPU, which is the heart of the microcontroller. Most Embedded Systems Training in Noida are built on microcontrollers, which run faster than a custom-built system with a microprocessor because all components are integrated into a single chip. Also, all embedded system does not use the operating system. The systems with high-end applications only use the operating system as it requires large memory capability. Low-end applications like remote systems, digital cameras, MP3 players etc. do not have large memory capability and hence does not use the operating system.

An embedded system has certain specialties like:

  •              Embedded systems are task specific.
  •        Embedded systems are designed with real-time constraints and they often have power constraints.
  •    Embedded systems are supported by a wide array of processors and processor architectures.
  •      Embedded systems are mostly priced sensitive.
  •      Embedded systems must be able to operate under extreme environmental conditions.
  •      Embedded systems often store all their object code in ROM.
  •     Embedded systems utilize fewer system resources than desktop systems but implications of software failure are much more severe in embedded systems than in desktop systems.
  •      Embedded microprocessors often have dedicated debugging circuitry.
  •      Embedded systems  have  large User Interfaces for real-time applications

Embedded systems are widely used all around the world. Embedded systems span all aspects of our modern life. Embedded systems are used in different applications like:

Ø   Embedded System in Home Appliances: Dishwasher, DVD, Top-set box, Washing machine, microwave, HVAC system, answering machine, security system, garden sprinkler systems etc.

Ø    Embedded System inOffice Automation:  Fax, copy machine, smartphone system, modern, scanner, printers.

Ø    Embedded System in Security:   Face recognition, finger recognition, eye recognition, building security system, airport security system, and alarm system.

Ø Embedded System in Academia: Smartboard, smart room, OCR, calculator, smart card.

Ø    Embedded System inTelecommunication: Router, hub, cellular phone, IP phone, web camera

Ø  Embedded System inAutomobile: Fuel injection controller, anti-locking brake system, airbag system, GPS, cruise control.

Ø  Embedded System inEntertainment: MP3, video game, Mind Storm, smart toy.

Ø  Embedded System inAerospace: Navigation system, automatic landing system, flight attitude controller,   space explorer, space robotics.

Ø   Embedded System inIndustrial automation: Assembly line, temperature, monitoring systems on pressure, hazard detecting system, data collection system, voltage, current, industrial robot.

Ø  Embedded System inMedical: CT scanner, ECG, EEG, EMG, MRI, Glucose monitor, blood pressure monitor, and medical diagnostic device.
