My Personal Trainer Wants Me To Try Harder

by Neighborhood Trainers Finding a trainer is a personal choice

If you’re like me, then working out is enough on its own. Even if I do the moves without a lot of effort, I still see it as an accomplishment to get into the gym and get something done every day. At least, that’s how I used to be. I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted though, so I thought about giving a personal trainer a try. At first, I was skeptical, but after a few weeks of debating I decided to find one near me.

The First Session

At my first session, the Chappaqua personal trainer I chose to work with asked a series of questions about weight loss goals, fitness goals, and how I wanted my body to look. She also covered nutrition to assess my eating habits and to see if diet changes were needed. We then went through the types of exercises I was accustomed to and what my general likes and dislikes were. Fortunately, specific medical conditions are not a factor in my case, but they might be for you.

After my NYC personal trainer had collected all the necessary information, it was time to begin. I immediately noticed how tired I got and began to slow down. My personal trainer stopped and made me correct my form and start again, pushing me to put more muscle into it. I felt drained after we finished the workout, but I understood why I was pushed so hard and why I wasn’t getting the results I wanted before.

No Pain, No Gain

If you’re working out and there’s no pain in your muscles the next day, it’s likely that your workout wasn’t hard enough. Exercise causes muscle tissue to tear and then repair itself, getting stronger as you continue to work out. If you don’t feel any soreness in the muscles the day after a workout, your muscles likely didn’t get enough stimulation.

Increase Your Intensity

A mistake a lot of people make when working out is doing the same routine over and over again. When this happens, the body adapts to the exercise and results aren’t going to be seen. Challenge yourself to go faster, harder, or longer in order to get the most out of each exercise session.

My personal trainer changed the way I look at exercise, and ever since then we’ve been pushing past limits and the results have been astounding. Try pushing yourself when you exercise to see what a difference it could make.
