Facts about the Kilimanjaro Mountain

  • Mount Kilimanjaro is a composite volcano or 'Strata volcano' formed with three different volcanoes - Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. 'Strata' means the layer.
  • The lava released from the eruption of the volcano grows on cooling. For many years, when the lava issued from the blast gets accumulated, many layers are formed from it. This kind of process runs for years, and every time the explosion creates a new layer. The enormous mountain Kilimanjaro is made up of this process. It began to be made millions of years ago.
  • Two peaks of Kilimanjaro are Mawenzi, and Shira volcanoes are inactive, while the third and highest peak Kibo is dormant and it may explode further. Its height is 4,600 meters from Earth to summit.
