Moorings – For fore stalling the free movement of water vehicles moorings are used. Apparently, they are temporary anchoring for vessels so that when the vessels are parked they are not damaged due to the water currents or the water environment. These moorings are made up of a variety of materials which include nylon, hemp, polyethylene, sisal, steel wires and more. For high performance mooring lines Aramid, HMPE, etc. type of materials are used generally. There are different kinds of moorings which include marine moorings, barge moorings, mooring fess, bulk moorings, container moorings, yacht moorings, etc. The primary use of moorings is to park the water vehicles, either loading or unloading them. At the port each and every vessel has a fixed area for parking provided to them by the port authority. There are two kinds of moorings available at the docks. Free moorings and rented moorings.

Free Moorings – As the word suggests free moorings are available free of cost for parking. You do not have to pay anything to use the mooring for your vessel. Though, you do not have a choice over the mooring selection most of the times. This facility is on a first come, first serve basis. So, you have to take the mooring that is available. Secondarily, there is a team of professionals who are monitoring the mooring round the clock as well as with the help of CCTV cameras. What’s more, many of the companies do provide insurance facilities also, so that in case of any kind of damage to your ship when parked on rent, all the repair charges are taken care by them. So, it is recommended that you give away mooring fees rather than going for a free mooring. Though, in both cases checking the mooring quality before selecting it is very important.

Marina – This is the place where your vessels are going to be moored. It is also known as basin or dock. Though, marina is mainly used for parking smaller boats and vessels and not for passenger or cargo vessels. Marina is located usually at the conjoin of harbor, lagoon or sea.
