Mira Road: 6-Year-Old Boy Gets Tooth Stuck In Right Bronchus
A 6-year-old boy from Boisar has been
successfully operated upon by a team of doctors Dr Ankit Gupta (paediatric
intensivist) Dr Sangamlal Pal (ENT surgeon) Dr Sumeet Warang
(anaesthesiologist) at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road to remove
a tooth stuck in the right lung.
The patient has been discharged
from the hospital and resumed his daily routine now. The parents of the patient
are residents of Boisar who panicked after he accidentally aspirated his tooth.
The patient wasn’t able to breathe properly after the incident owing to airway
obstruction. For the much-needed relief, the patient was referred to Wockhardt
Hospital wherein he was able to breathe freely again.
Dr Sangamlal Pal ENT Consultant,
Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road said, “On arrival in an emergency room (ER), the
patient had symptoms such as breathing difficulty. Radiology confirmed the
presence of the tooth on the right side of the bronchus. The patient was
immediately taken to the operation theatre (OT) wherein he was scheduled for
rigid bronchoscopy.”
Dr Pal added, “It is a procedure
performed to remove the foreign body (FB) aspiration from bronchus. With the
help of a rigid bronchoscope consisting of an optical forcep and a camera that
showed the tooth in the right bronchus. The tooth was removed after gaining
access to the patient’s airway under general anaesthesia. The airway and
breathing improved immediately after the procedure. Post-operation, the patient
was in the PICU, recovered well, and was discharged the next day. Not, treating
him at the right time could have led to serious complications like death or
permanent lung damage.”
