Mes Aynak – A Hidden Archaeological Gem in the Heart of Afghanistan!

Mes Aynak is the most important archaeological site of Afghanistan located at just a distance of 40 km southeast of Kabul. Mes Aynak is also the largest copper deposit site of Afghanistan that makes the entire site even more important for the Afghanistan and surrounding areas and countries. This beautiful site is located in Logar province region of Afghanistan and the site is world popular mainly due to the remains of ancient settlement of Budha Statues. Archaeologists have still not discovered the entire gem that is hidden beneath the site as they have only started to find the remnants of even older 5,000 year old Bronze age articles beneath the level of Budhist site.

Mes Aynak Not Just an Archaeological Site!

Mes Aynak is not just an ordinary archaeological site located in Afghanistan but it has the potential to define and redefine the history of the entire reason. The first exploration of this archaeological site started to begin by the Russian and Afghan archaeologists at around 1973 – 1974. The site has deep connections with India and China due to its presence in the path of Silk Road. According to some archaeologists, the site was on its peak between the fifth and the seventh century AD and later after 200 years of decline the site was gradually abandoned and forgotten.

 Copper Deposit of Mes Aynak:

The site remains in news mainly due to the presence of largest copper deposit in Afghanistan. Many save Mes Aynak campaigns were ran by the different organization against the mining of Chinese companies over there. In 2007, copper deposit site was given on the lease of 30 years to a Chinese Metallurgical Group at around USD $3 Billion.  But later it comes to the light that site may contains around 5.52 million MT of copper with the value of over 100 of billion of dollars. The site is remaining a legally controversial one between the Chinese group and government of Afghanistan.
