Mental Well-Being And Its Problems During Pregnancy

by Alice Thomas Writer

Pregnancy always means a mixture of too many emotions. It can affect you in a good way but also sometimes in a bad way. If this is your first pregnancy, you are bound to feel worried and anxious, especially in the first three months. You can stop worrying about your baby all the time by availing of a baby scan package to see its growth and development. Often, we give more attention to the physical health of the woman and forget about her mental health. But mental well-being is also equally important during this time. Otherwise, you might feel its effects after your pregnancy is over.

Mood swings are quite normal during pregnancy and it goes away with time in most cases. But if you are always feeling nervous and stressing over every little thing in the pregnancy, it is possible that this is not a case of mood swings. There are several things that can happen when these worries start to take a toll on your body.

1.Depression

Being irritable and sad all the time for weeks and months is known as depression. Sometimes, women might have depression before pregnancy or it can start to develop during the pregnancy. If you are dealing with a lot of stress at work or home and you are not happy about the pregnancy, it can lead to depression.

2.Anxiety

When you keep worrying and fearing over every little thing that could go wrong in pregnancy, it is known as anxiety. Stress can put a toll on your body and the growing child inside you. Keeping them bottled inside can also harm you a lot.

There are several other prominent mental health issues, such as:

·       Bipolar disorder

·       Post-traumatic stress disorder

·       Panic attacks

·       Obsessive-compulsive disorder

·       Eating disorders

Many times, people fail to recognize all these problems and don’t get treatment at the right time. If you don’t get the proper treatment, it will become very harmful for you and your baby. Talk with someone in your family or consult a doctor during your regular appointments. You might get recommended to a therapist for further treatment.

Treatment of Mental Problems

If talking is not effective for the time being, your doctor might prescribe some medicines to you. But don’t take any medicines without consulting the doctor. It can turn out to be harmful to the baby.

Sometimes, some form of activities might help you too like yoga, swimming, meditation, etc. If you can continue doing it throughout your pregnancy, you will get a lot of benefits from them.

Therefore, don’t ignore your mental health during these few months, and don’t forget to avail baby scan packages in Cardiff at the right time.
