Meet Your School's Newest Hall Monitor: A Weapon Identifying Security System

School just got a whole lot safer. RAPiD-IQ is an advanced security camera that uses artificial intelligence to scan a school's interior and exterior for potential active shooters. The system monitors every hallway, doorway, and entryway to keep students and faculty safe, which is why it was named the country's best hall monitor in 2022.

RAPiD-IQ was developed by an Ohio-based cyber-security company and is putting potential school shooters on notice. If you bring a gun to RAPiD-IQ's school, the system will be able to identify it, call for help, and have you arrested before you can say your ABC's.

Stealth Entry was founded by Israel Arroyo Jr., a retired U.S. Marine who has his sights set on eliminating the mass shootings that continue to plague schools across the country. According to an October 5th publication by Education Week, there have been 35 school shootings in 2022.

“Time saves lives,” said Arroyo, and while teachers and staff prioritize their students' safety over everything else, they can't see everything happening all the time in and around their school. RAPiD-IQ is the perfect colleague who can. The system remains constantly vigilant for potential threats, and once spotted, can alert police before any damage is done.

By setting up video monitoring systems at school entry-ways and throughout the building, the weapon-identifying technology is able to monitor video footage and can quickly identify when someone is holding a weapon. Once a weapon has been identified, the system sends an alert to an administrator's mobile device or computer screen, who then can alert the police and share the camera’s live feed to help officers quickly and effectively respond to the situation.

While there have been privacy concerts, the company maintains the system’s sole function is to identify weapons, not collect data on people. The system does not store information but rather identifies threats in real-time by acting as a high-tech security system that watches over students.

A spokesperson for the cyber-security company said: “ RAPiD-IQ allows for these organizations to quickly develop a well-executed course of action using real-time intelligence from multiple source points. RAPiD-IQ’s main purpose and mission is to minimize loss of life.”
