Martial arts teaching methods vary from school to school. Technically all schools are teaching the same thing - martial arts. This being the case, the question must be asked. Why are some karate schools thriving while others are going under? The answer? Varied martial arts drills and karate lesson plans - these are they key to a successful karate school. Studies show that the number one reason that karate students leave their school is due to boredom. Here are three things you can do right now to keep the students you already have.

Karate teachers must be prepared

Have you ever attended a class where the teacher wasn't quite prepared? How much did you get out of the class? How confused were you? The same applies to your martial arts students. Your instructors must be prepared and have their karate lesson plans thought out in advance. Martial arts teaching requires planning and preparation to prevent from doing the same boring drills over and over again week after week. Simply doing this will improve your student retention

Karate teachers must think outside the box

This goes hand in hand with creating karate lesson plans. You must be able to bring something new to your classes each week to keep your students engaged and excited. This sometimes means thinking outside the box and seeking out new drills or karate games for your students. What kid doesn't love a new and challenging game?

Karate is one of the most formal martial arts practiced today, next to Tae Kwon Do and Aikido. Although most people know what to expect when they walk into a karate school, they are generally not aware of what exactly they want to achieve by practicing karate.

The reason for learning karate largely depends on your circumstances and therefore you should choose the right karate school to achieve your objectives. You might just be looking for a way to defend yourself in the event of an attack or you may have something else in mind, for example, fitness or character development.
