Major Components Of Car Brakes And Their Maintenance Tips

by Robert Keith AUTOMOTIVE DIAGNOSTIC & TRAINING SERVICE
The braking system of a car helps to control the speed in a consistent manner. Modern car brakes come with several components. All these components work together to slow down as well as stop the car. Sometimes, the braking system starts showing some warning signs due to lack of proper maintenance.

In this article, we are going to discuss, major components of car brakes and their maintenance tips

Components of brakes
Modern car brakes generally come with a number of components and semi components such as brake pedals, master cylinder, brake shoe, brake calliper, etc. Let’s discuss these components in brief.

BRAKE SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE

Brake pedals: The brake pedal is one of the most essential components of the car braking system. Drivers push the pedal to apply the car brake properly. After pressing the pedal, the master cylinder starts moving forward.

Master cylinder: The master cylinder is the heart of a car braking system. It mainly transforms the non-hydraulic force into hydraulic pressure. This device gives the actual amount of pressure to the final braking. This component is also called brake cylinder.

Brake calliper: The brake calliper of a car mainly delivers the clamping force that can effectively push the brake pads to the rotor. The brake calliper is the major part of disc brakes. There are two types of brake callipers mainly used. They include a single-piston brake calliper and a dual-piston brake calliper.

Brake shoe: The brake shoe is the main alternative to the car brake pads. This is the major part of the drum brake system of a car. Over time, dust, dirt, regular wear and tear damage the brake shoes permanently. So, they should be repaired or replaced after a certain period of time.

Tips to repair car brake components
A car braking system may stop working properly, due to lack of maintenance. So, after a certain period of time, the major components and semi components should be repaired in a proper way. Nowadays, many automotive training institutes provide automotive e-learning course on car brake maintenance and service in Dublin and Ireland. This course mainly covers the following areas

  • Recognising several structures & components
  • Assessing the requirement for repair & service
  • Front & rear brake service
  • Drum brake service
  • Attending to mechanical & electrical parking brakes
  • Brake cylinder inspection
  • Brake fluid circuit bleeding
  • Changing the car brake fluid

This automotive e-learning course will surely give you a clear concept of car brake maintenance. The training module mainly consists of practical tasks & assessments and to enhance your knowledge of car brake repair.
