Maharashtra: Section 144 Imposed In "This" District Owing To Communal Violence

communal violence has been observed in Maharashtra’s Amravati district.
Reports
mentioned that after people of two communities clashed in Achalpur city of
Amaravati district in Maharashtra, section 144 have been clamped on
Monday, April 18, until further orders to maintain a law and order situation in
the area.
Shashikant Satav, Additional SP, Amravati Rural said that more than 600 police officials
have been deployed to Achalpur-Paratwada twin city, Kandli village and another
village to check the law and order situation. The administration has imposed
Section 144 imposed in affected areas of the district to prevent mass
gatherings.
While, the
situation is under control, the police officer, however, informed that cops
have visited the place and appealed to people to maintain calm and not believe
in rumours.

Moreover, a heavy
contingent of police officials has been deployed in Akola, Amravati city,
Amravati rural and other nearby cities. The administration has also ordered the
closure of markets and police patrolling has started.
The clash took
place over a saffron flag being hoisted at Dulha Gate on Sunday night, April
17, a day after Hanuman Jayanthi occasion. According to reports, 16 people have
been arrested for stone pelting and indulging in violence.
It has also
come to light that a few cops suffered injuries in the incident.
