Look Past the Mascots: How to Find the Best Insurance

by APSense News Release Admin

It is pretty ironic that something as bland and routine as car insurance has produced some of the best advertisements in recent memory. Car insurance commercials have become famous for their iconic characters and the star-studded appearances of endorsed athletes and celebrities who remind us to switch to their brand and save.

Another irony to the superb marketing tactics of these insurance brands is that they may be detracting from the purpose of the ad itself: to focus on the business. Flo from Progressive and Aaron Rodgers doing a discount double-check for State Farm don’t tell the consumer what differentiates one company from another.

We’ll examine whether the legendary TV spots for these businesses actually help sales for any of the advertisers, what some insurance companies do better than others, and how to spot the slight differences in policies that could affect you in the present and the future.

Do car insurance commercials keep customers loyal?

Ask yourself this question: Would you really keep going to an insurance provider just because a gecko tells you that 15 minutes saves you 15% or more on car insurance? Hopefully not. Marketing is an art form. It communicates a company’s ideals to an audience of consumers, but it rarely displays the foundational structure of a business to the world.

Yes, GEICO’s legendary slogan makes a claim about saving money on your insurance policy with one simple call, but isn’t that the goal of every auto insurance brand? Nobody is going to say they want higher rates on insurance.

This is why you should compare car insurance prices yourself rather than gullibly listening to catchy claims and witty one-liners. Fortunately, it seems people do take their time to research because only USAA and State Farm keep more than 80% of their customers at renewal time.

People are constantly looking for improved rates and better guarantees on their coverage. But what exactly does this mean? What should you look for to personalize your coverage and get the best deal along with the most amenities from your policy?

Car Insurance Is Personal

Even though most states require drivers to have car insurance, every driver needs different types of insurance that best suits their interests, needs, and price range. Whether you are shipping a car or driving one, the insurance policy you choose is critical.

Don’t choose a policy just because it’s required by law in your state to have insurance. There are many tips available online for those who need a little bit of a helping hand in selecting their policy.

For example, if you and your partner share a vehicle and live under the same roof, then you should consider taking out a policy that covers both of you rather than for each of you individually. Many companies encourage joint policies, but there may be some rates that are more expensive premiums, so put in the time to compare before purchasing.

Keeping the topic on household insurance, many companies will give family discounts if you add a teenager to your auto plan. The same reasoning applies as above with couples sharing the same vehicle. Companies want as many customers as possible, so discounts are going to come with the territory. It’s like buying in bulk from a grocery store.

Be careful once adding your kids to the plan, though. Some insurance companies are not as lenient towards the inexperienced driving habits of youngsters, and rates will soar if your teen is recklessly parading down the highway and gets into an accident. Pick the right company that both encourages safe driving with discounts and motivates your teen to do better in the future.

It’s almost like a science experiment to find the right insurance company. You have to pick a controlled variable such as the aforementioned safe driving discounts, which are now typically determined through a safe driving device.

Lots of companies are using these trackers to determine whether you are making wise decisions behind the wheel. They will all give you reduced-price rewards of some sort, but not all companies are built equally upon their promises.

You have to compare the same aspects of a policy amongst a large portion of companies on the market. Don’t just go by the advertisements because there are so many different factors that influence insurance policies.

Pick up a phone or contact an agent so that you can get personalized policy advice for your and your family’s situation. Only then can you be sure you took every avenue possible to the smartest conclusion.

The Power Behind a Slogan

Every car insurance company runs with a slogan that has hyperbolized truth to it. Allstate claims you’re in good hands. State Farm will be with you like a good neighbor.

The General has great low rights you can find online (don’t they all, though?). If you like the hook that you see on TV, you might consider going to the site and seeing what they are actually all about.

Once there, you’ll find that some of these jingles and cartoons are leading you to a little bit of insurance treasure. It’s just buried under the surface and has to be dug up.

Allstate has great accident forgiveness. State Farm isn’t just there for you when things go poorly, but they have many proactive policies that encourage positive change to occur before negativity seeps in, just like a longtime friend.

Remember that insurance companies are just like any other businesses that are competing for your attention, with signature business models and practices that draw customers to them with brand familiarity.

If one place is right for your boss or coworker, it doesn't mean you will connect with that insurer’s offers. It also doesn’t mean that your acquaintances made the wrong decision.

Pick the Best Insurance Policy for You

Every insurance company provides something that is just right for a certain somebody. It’s your job to decide which one is the right place for you and then continue to evaluate that decision you made for years to come.

If you feel it’s time to make a change or evaluate your decision-making with your auto insurance, don’t let your insurance agent try to talk you out of what is best for your finances and your family. Be confident that you can make choices that positively affect your wallet, or talk to a financial advisor.

Life indeed throws us curve balls all the time. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be intrigued by the TV screen. Limu the Emu is pretty cute (but also weird, right?).
