Linkedin and the new frontiers of the curriculum vitae

by Abdul Rimaaz Abdul Rimaaz Business Consultants UK

It is now clear even to the most antiquated that the old paper curriculum of infinite lines and variations is dead.

Sending a resume of more than two pages, is equivalent to not being hired and this does not mean that the required experiences are less, on the contrary.

So how do we structure our curriculum?

Or how do we promote ourselves for the job position that interests us?

First of all, we enter our personal data , usually located at the top right, next to the photo .

An e-mail address must be entered together with these . It is useless to reiterate its importance and, above all, we avoid inserting unlikely emails recovered from our most embarrassing adolescence. In case, creating an ad hoc account for the formal world is very intuitive and easy (free with gmail if you don't have your own domain).

We add our scholastic and academic background in chronological order and schematically insert our previous experiences .

These are also in chronological order, putting on the curriculum only the experiences that seem most relevant to the position for which we are applying.

Linkedin: our curriculum correlated by reviews and a network of professionals

A good way to set up the curriculum is to follow the Linkedin approach… and since we mention LinkedIn, we can only reiterate its enormous power in creating one's own working network and in finding the job offers that interest us most.

Having a well-set LinkedIn profile is in fact a fundamental step in looking for a job.

Many HR managers claim that part of the candidate selection process is by analyzing the candidate's social profiles.

Furthermore, by adding our work experiences, Linkedin will suggest job offers that are more relevant to our interests and our skills described in the profile.

It is also possible to apply directly via the lead, thus skipping the process of writing the resume.

The Linkedin profile is considered more complete than a normal paper curriculum to which it adds its own social network, includes the opinions of previous employers or collaborators on our qualities and provides the opportunity to see the companies, companies or organizations that we are used to follow.

But beware of employment contracts on Linkedin, which are often simplified and not very clear.

Numerous labor lawyers in fact advise to investigate the subject linked to the contract and to the various clauses included therein. Contractual clauses are often the main reason for misunderstanding between employee and employer.

And this is certainly a problem that Linkedin, precisely because of its simplifying and immediate characteristics, cannot and must not solve.

Curriculum Vitae ... how can we make the most of it?

For recruitment purposes , we write down the main and essential information , we highlight our skills and competences with great honesty, we take care of spelling, grammar and layout.

For the purpose of professional study , we also write more complete information , extending it a few pages if necessary: it does not serve as a business card, but serves to ascertain and deepen, so it must be exhaustive.
