by MyMoney Mantra FinTech (Financial Technology)

Your universal identity as a resident of India is your Aadhaar card. The government has launched the Aadhaar program in 2009 and since then there has been efforts to link it with certain documents. Linking it with voter ID card, PAN card, bank account details, LPG connection card, ration card, and your mobile number is mandatory. The linking can be done online or offline.

If you have not yet linked your Aadhaar number with your bank account, you are several steps away from availing various benefits. The government, through an amendment of The Prevention of Money Laundering (Maintenance of Records) Rules, 2005, dated June 1st, 2017, has mandated that the deadline for doing this is December 31, 2017. Besides, it has also mandated about linking Aadhaar with new bank accounts.

Demographic authentication of your bank account is a must! It is the matching of your account’s personal information with Aadhaar number and associated biometric data. Personal information includes name, date of birth, gender, address, etc. According to government sources, 750 million accounts have been linked to Aadhaar, but only 480 million accounts have been authenticated. If you already have a linked account, ensure that it is authenticated.

Linking of Aadhaar Card can be done through mobile banking, net banking, ATM, and by visiting your nearest bank branch. Here are five easy steps to link your Aadhaar card to your bank account:

1.Visiting Your Bank Branch

Once you submit all details in your bank branch, the bank will take 3-4 working days to verify the submitted details. Once your details are verified, your Aadhaar card will be linked to your bank account.

2. BHIM app: If you are using BHIM, check if your bank allows Aadhaar linking through this app. It will take you only a few minutes to complete the linking process.

3. Net-banking: Linking your Aadhaar number to your bank account is easy through Net banking by following a few simple steps. All you need to do is log in to your net banking account and submit all requisite details. If you have multiple bank accounts with the same bank, ensure that you link all accounts individually.

4. Phone banking: Few banks allow linking of Aadhaar number with your bank account through phone banking. Check if your bank provides this facility. To link your account with Aadhaar, give your bank a missed call. Once you get a return call, all you need to do is feed required details over the IVR machine.

5. SMS: Few banks allow Aadhaar linking through SMS. Your mobile number should be already registered with your bank. Just sending an SMS to the number registered by the bank in the desired format with required details will make the process complete. You will receive an SMS confirmation of the same.
