LG launches V10 with dual screen

by Alicia Brown Application Developer

While there are a number of phones hitting the shelves lately, few of them can claim that they house not one, but two screens. LG’s new V10 phone is one phone that can, however, proudly claim that it does so. Not just that, the two screens also have two front cameras. Perhaps this is what is going to distinguish LG from the rest of the brands hitting the smartphone market.

LG has some tough competition though. The last few weeks have seen major brands release smartphones. Earlier this week, Samsung launched two new Galaxys, meanwhile Apple launched two new iPhones last week. LG, however, is being cautious. Perhaps in a strategy to keep the other brands surrounded, LG has also announced a second device – its Urbane smartwatch.

Worth noting is the fact that perhaps with the V10, LG is targeting a demographic that is overwhelmingly dominated by Samsung’s Note line and the iPhone 6/6S Plus. In order to differentiate itself from the rest, the V10 has a high resolution QHD screen of 5.9 inches in total. Of the total, 5.7 is the traditional display, while the other 0.2 inch is dedicated to the second screen at the top. So what is the purpose of the second screen, you ask? It serves as an 'always-on' display, which constantly shows the time. It also provides quick and easy access to simple settings, such as for flashlight and the Wi-Fi. If you’re worried about how much battery this ‘always-on’ screen is going to drain out, LG claims you have little to worry about. Apparently, the second screen uses up less than 5% of the battery. So if this LG offering tempts you,  and you are thinking to transfer content from your  old phone to your new V10, you can various app like SmartIO and more.

As mentioned before, the V10 comes with two front 5-megapixel cameras, along with a 16-megapixel rear camera. The V10 also has a rubber-like DuraSkin casing that, according to LG, would make the device a lot more durable, even when dropped. It also has a fingerprint sensor at the back that can be used with Android Pay. The V20 runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor; it has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage (expandable) with a removable battery.
