Linear Income versus Residual Income
If you had a cleaning business and charged thirty dollars to clean someone’s house and you could clean five houses in one day, your gross income would be two hundred dollars. Ninety-five percent of the working population earns income like this. This type of earning is called linear income, where you trade your time for money. In this example, you only earn income when you clean someone’s house and your income is totally dependent on your efforts.
Alternatively, you could hire employees so you wouldn’t have to do the cleaning yourself. Now that you have employees to pay, instead of charging thirty dollars, you charge forty. Paying each employee thirty dollars for every house he or she cleans and you keep ten dollars. This is one way to leverage your time and income through other people.
However, many people won’t use this method of leverage because they don’t want employee headaches and they want to keep their business small and manageable. If this method of people leveraging doesn’t appeal to you, there is another way to leverage your time and income through the efforts of other people. It’s called network marketing.
Most people do network marketing every day, but they just don’t get paid for it.
Network Marketing is nothing more than recommending and promoting things that you like. If you’re like most people, you recommend and promote movies, restaurants, places to go on vacation, places to shop, brands to buy, etc. Since you are recommending and promoting, why not get paid for it? Companies will pay you commissions and bonuses for what you do naturally recommending and promoting products and services that you like.
How does the people leverage principle fit into network marketing?
Instead of spending money on traditional advertising (television, radio, print) network marketing companies pay distributors to promote and recommend their products and services through word of mouth advertising. But not only does the company pay you for recommending and promoting their products and services to others but also when people you tell go out and tell other people.
In other words, you tell Mary who tells Bob who tells John who tells Tim and so on, you could earn a monthly residual check on all of their usage and sales. How does the people leverage principal fit into network marketing? Simple, you earn passive or residual income from the efforts of others. So you get paid even after you have stopped actively working because others are working for you.
I am often asked by people who are skeptical about the network marketing industry, “how much did you earn in your first month?” My response is always the same, “I don’t know because I haven’t finished collecting it yet. I earn residual income in my business so I am still getting paid from work I did in my first month.” Powerful and yet true.
Currently more than five million people in the United States alone are collecting an extra paycheck from their network marketing business. So if you are tired of recommending and promoting for free and you want to join the ranks of entrepreneurs who are getting an extra paycheck in their mailbox every month, by leveraging your time and income through the efforts of other people, you’ll want to check out network marketing.
