Unaccompanied Minors

Children who are 5-14 years old and traveling without a parent, legal guardian or, someone who is at least 18 years old. Those children will consider as Unaccompanied Minors.

Airlines safety requirements for young travelers

·      The service of unaccompanied minors is available on nonstop United or United Express flights only. These young passengers are not allowed to travel on codeshare flights and other flights operated by our partner airlines.

·      The airline does not offer unaccompanied minor service connecting to or from other airlines' flights.

·      Children younger than the age of 5 are not allowed to travel as unaccompanied minors; even they are traveling with an older unaccompanied child.

·      Young adults ages 15 to 17 are not considered as Unaccompanied minor and they can travel alone on any United- or United Express-operated flight.

·      Unaccompanied minor service is not available for children 15 or older. Young adults ages 15 to 17 can travel alone on flights.

When two or more children are traveling together

·      In this case, the age of the youngest child will determine whether the children will need to use the unaccompanied minor service

·      Child younger than 5 is not eligible for unaccompanied minor service. They can only travel with a parent, guardian or someone older than 17.

·      If the oldest child is 15–17 and the youngest child is 5–14, the younger traveler is still considered an unaccompanied minor.

Ticket booking instruction for Unaccompanied minor

·      Advance information- parent need to submit the information about who is dropping off and picking up the child during booking tickets via United Airlines Reservation. The parent can update information anytime via the United Customer Contact Center.

·      Seating- for child safety and other requirements, the airline will assign the seat for the child. The parent will be able to see the seat assignment 48 hours after booking the tickets.

·      Service charge- there is a service charge for unaccompanied minors, which covers the extra service flight attendants and airport employees provide.

When adults and children are traveling together on separate reservations

If a passenger is traveling with children but in different classes than the unaccompanied minor service is not required. But, they need to call the United Customer Contact Center, so the airline can do the arrangements.

Note- the online and mobile check-in isn’t available for children under 15 years old, only the airport check-in service is available for them.
