LEAD ACID BATTERY RECYCLING PLANT

by Mettherm Furnace Owner
The first ones are always the best because old is gold. Ever since its birth in 1859, Lead-acid batteries have been the most widely used ones till the date. Lead-acid batteries maintain a commendable high cell voltage and are usually pocket friendly and hence are the reasons why they are still widely used in motor vehicles to provide the high current required by the automobiles for better usage and convenience.

Lead-Acid Batteries Persist to be Top-Notch

In today’s era, the failure or damage of batteries, its durability and it’s complicated usage is a big time concern. Lead-acid batteries ever since are one of the top most highly recycled consumer product as a solution for the above reasons stated.

Recycling is the Key

Recycling as learnt is always beneficial and supported and what can be better than recycling the best product which is already tested and trusted. The remains usually considered of the Lead acid batteries can be recycled and further used to make other lead oxides or use it again for the generation of batteries. The recycling of the batteries started decades ago and has been flowing to an extent that there is nearly 60-80% recycled lead and plastic in today’s lead-acid batteries. But it has been observed that recycling the Lead-acid batteries can have some serious repercussions. The whole process can be harmful for the person directly involved with the procedure or in reach and hence can face some serious health issues such as lead poisoning due to inhaling or unknowing consumption of lead particles.

Keeping it Efficient

Mettherm INC has been a leading company with which the inbuilt highly efficient recycling plant ensures that the best is made out of the waste with the minimum harm that cannot be avoided. The lead acid battery which has been thrown to waste is collected and taken to an area with the recycling plant, made to make sure that the whole process remains safe for the environment. The process followed by the proper rules and regulations is undertaken to extract lead and plastic for manufacturing the new batteries to use it again. The main motive behind the recycling process is to provide a complete turnkey solution and make sure that the lead and plastic that has been taken out are in a perfect reusable form.

The Detailed Process

The whole process contains a series of stages undertaken in a precise and detailed manner which ensures the smooth and a detailed procedure for the best results-
The lead acid battery is put inside a machine which has an in-built hammer that helps in breaking the battery into various pieces.

The pieces are then passed on to the second stage wherein the pieces undergo in a Vat which separates the heavy metals by sinking it to the bottom and the plastic by making it rise to the top which further helps in scooping out the polypropylene and hence only the heavy metals and lead remains from which lead can be generated easily.

In the next stage, the remains of the battery are filled in individual batches of the lead rotary furnance wherein the reduction takes place.

The lead bearing slag is formed after the lead bearing material is reduced to crude lead.

The slag are collected and smelted into jumbo ingot trolleys. The whole process is carried out keeping in mind the capacity of the required lead acid battery plant, the desired flexibility in the lead acid battery plant operation and lead acid battery scrap’s composition.

In the whole process of recycling, the crude is either directly casted into ingots or the molten lead is tapped directly into a holding kettle when 99.97% purity is required of the refined lead. Keeping in mind the environmental responsibilities and the safety concerns of the workers and near ones, air pollution control system which consists of settling chambers, cyclones, cooling dust etc are installed that takes care of the lead fumes and dust emissions keeping the inside and out safe.
The larger the requirement and the plant capacity the better and desired the design and the specifications. In today’s changing and ever growing time and setups the specifications of the required Lead-acid battery recycling plants differ a lot and hence the company caters to all such needs.
