The seventh and last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, had created 54 trusts. These exclusive jewellery and gems were assets of these exclusive trusts which are now part of national treasure. This year from February 18 the National Museum of Delhi has opened the exhibition of the invaluable and exquisite jewellery collection of the Nizam of Hyderabad.

A total of 173 precious jewels and jewellery items are at display in 23 different showcases, these rare pieces of superb workmanship covers a period ranging from 18th century to the early 20th century. As these are national treasures so you can expect high surveillance and many layers of security. The exhibition will be allowed for 50 people at a time in order to maintain the security of the treasure.

Most interesting piece of art that stands out among this Jewellery collection is the Imperial diamond now known as Jacob diamond, its weighs 184.75 carats, which is an amazing weight of any single gemstone. It is a priceless sparkling diamond by all means, be its brilliant cutting, clarity and colour. The Size of Jacob diamond is almost double the size of Kohinoor Diamond (in the present shape). Also the beautiful seven stringed pearl necklace (satlarah) is a unique creation and its weight and size are simply mind-boggling. There are approximately 40,000-50,000 chows (one chow = Carat x Carat x 0.65 /number of pearls) pearls in this collection. And not to forget the 22 unset emeralds.
