Computers have revolutionized learning and education across the globe. They offer a huge opportunity of self-learning minus the direct involvement of teachers that can fuel rapid development of understanding and growth and knowledge. It is undoubtedly important at the higher education level but even in schools it can be of immense help. The school curriculum offers the guidelines on which students can research and learn and gather as much information as possible with the help of the internet which is a huge treasure trove of information.

Increased Learning with Paperless Schools

Computers, whether they are laptops or desktops, aid hugely in reducing the usage of writing materials which can be hugely beneficial to the students. It’s saying bye-bye to paperwork and huge files without compromising on the quality of education. By preparing assignments and to-do lists, students can become extremely organized and efficient in making presentations. Designing and access to visual information also become easy and students can add any number of photos and graphics to enrich the quality of their work. Keeping track of class notes also becomes easy because these electronic devices come with huge storage spaces as well. The internet is a huge virtual library, so access to books for classroom education as well as personal reading become easy. Students can download books and read them online or save for later.

Digitizing Learning across Countries

Laptops are lightweight (around two to three kilos) and portable, so, they can be carried around in all the classes and even on educational tours for quick research on topics that students lack sufficient knowledge in. However, supply of constant electricity is necessary for running the device. Laptops have sufficient battery backup but need to be recharged while using for long hours. Owing to the huge benefits offered by electronic education, laptops are being made part of the education system in many countries. Kenya for instance attempted to provide laptops to Class One students in its public schools which would have brought more than 20,000 schools within its purview. This would have increased the number of Computers for sale in Kenya and help in the education process.

A Revolutionary Change in Education

This digitization process in schools is a bold and necessary step that will help students in more focused learning and the teachers in offering better guidance to the pupils. But the move is likely to tax the governments of all the countries attempting it. In Kenya, for instance, the move was to tax the state exchequer a neat $600 million. The Laptop prices Kenya are higher than the purchasing power of most people but this move by the government would have made many students the proud owner of laptops. However, it did not take off quite so well because of the lack of proper infrastructure. The unavailability of power was seen a major problem and it had to be discontinued. That is, however, not the plight in all the countries and they have taken off successfully in most places. Laptops are extremely useful and important for education.
