Know How To Prepare The Ground Before Artificial Grass Installation

by James Spencer Blogger

Wth year-round lush, savings on water and little maintenance, artificial grass creates a space perfect for kids and pets. The demand for low maintenance artificial lawns is growing among the Australian families. Knowing what exactly it needs to be done is vital before artificial grass installation. Especially preparing the ground before installation requires a few steps to follow-

Understand the ground condition and type:

Identify the ground conditions and soil type of the land you will be working on. It will help you to determine how well you can drain and turn it to be the soil type ideal or stone aggregate. It is an early-stage assessment that will determine the amount of work required.

Remove the existing organic:

After proper inspection of the installation area, you have to find and remove the existing organics up to a depth of 50mm, which will require to use the turf cutter. Professionals use turf cutter for light work while trimming off the existing layer of natural turf and removing the root materials underneath.

Preparing the ground:

In case, the ground is made up of largely-based soils that offer free drainage. To get a standard base, it should be 50mm of sharp sand. However, if the soil condition is mostly clay-based and comes with restricted drainage, there should be an additional stone layer subbase.

Compact surface:

With sharp sand laid, the surface needs to be compacted to get the stable base for the lawn. Although electric compaction plate can do the job perfectly, a straight piece of timber can level the surface.

Prevent the artificial turf from being penetrated by organic growth:

As soon as the ground is infilled and levelled, consider how to prevent the turf from being mixed with the natural growth of the grass. Upon installing a geotextile layer either above or underneath, the 50mm layer of sharp sand will start doing the trick.

When it comes to grass installation, the grass should be glued to the shock absorbent material. It needs to trim the edges of the turf, where it meets the walkways or other boarders.

Make sure there is no joining line visible:

When it comes lying the artificial grass, you have to secure and hold down the artificial grass firmly onto the base. However, to hide the joining lines, experts use the combination of joining tapes and pins.

Where to incorporate the artificial turf?

Artificial turf act as an accent for your home’s existing landscape and decor. And, here are some places where you can install turffor your home-

  • Rooftops
  • Lawns and gardens
  • Playing grounds for the kids
  • Dog runs
  • Lawns and gardens

There is no shortcut when it comes to installing artificial grass. The artificial grass installation is plenty of time-consuming and lets you come on-your-knees while working on additional expenses to work on tools and material purchase.

Allow professionals to handle your project. Installation by experts cannot overcome the deficiencies of incorrectly-spaced artificial grass. Hence, make it right from the beginning. Only by choosing the right product and insisting on professional installation can ensure maximum benefit.
