You might remember the 2014 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) where the Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell singlehandedly took his team to the finals. He was as destructive as any other batsman of the world and was the cause of smile for his beautiful team owner- Preity Zinta, till the finals.

Though his team lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the finals, the Australian board realized the worth of this destructive batsman and Maxwell grabbed a permanent place in the limited overs game from the Australian side.

In the upcoming season of IPL, which also happens to be the 10th edition of the same, Kings XI Punjab has named Glenn Maxwell as the skipper of the team. This Australian batsman has been named as the skipper in place of Murali Vijay of India, who took the skipper’s role midway in the last season.

Before Vijay, David Miller of South Africa was to lead the side, but on account of continuous defeat of the team in the last season, Miller withdrew his name and Vijay had to carry forward the liability.

The team ended on the last spot, winning only 4 of their 14 matches. The same team is looking to bounce back this season with their new skipper.

Maxwell has also been a part of Delhi Daredevils team in 2012 where he played 2 matches and in the Mumbai Indians team where he played 3. Apart from his all-destructive batting skills, Maxwell has delivered superbly with the ball too. His presence adds as a spinning option for the team, who could pick up wickets at crucial moments.

Maxwell also happens to be an exceptional fielder, saving quite a few runs for his team.

The real fame which he attained was with Kings XI Punjab where he ended up to be the most scintillating batsman of the season in 2014 IPL edition. The Punjab team is to start their campaign against the Rising Pune Supergiants team on 8th of April at Indore. The Pune team is also with a new skipper in the form of Steven Smith of Australia and the clash of these two Australians on the Indian turf would be an interesting conquest.
