Kidney disease treatment in Ayurveda

by Rahul Kumar Health and Medical

The kidneys are a pair of fist-sized organs located at the bottom of the rib cage, one on each side of the spine. Kidneys are responsible for filtering toxic waste, extra fluids, and impurities out of the blood through urine.

What is kidney disease?

Kidney disease occurs when the kidneys are unable to perform their functions and can’t filter the blood the way they should. It is mainly caused by diabetes and hypertension, and various other chronic conditions. Without treatment, the damage to the kidneys may progress, which can be life-threatening.

Types and causes of kidney disease-

1.    Acute kidney disease: acute kidney disease occurs when the kidneys suddenly become unable to filter toxic waste products from your blood. Blood filtration is the primary function of the kidneys. When the kidneys stop working, the toxic waste accumulates inside the body. This disease can develop within a few hours and days.

2.     Chronic kidney disease: chronic kidney disease is a gradual loss of kidney function over time. It is commonly caused by high blood pressure. High blood pressure can increase the pressure on blood vessels causing damage to the kidneys. Kidney function will eventually lead to a point where the kidneys can no longer perform their function. Another major cause of chronic kidney disease is diabetes. It causes high blood sugar in the blood and damages blood vessels in the kidneys.Resulting the kidneys to function abnormally.

3.    Glomerulonephritis: It is an inflammation of the glomeruli. Glomeruli are tiny blood vessels inside the kidneys. They remove excess fluids, electrolytes and waste from the blood. This disease can be caused by infections, drugs, or congenital abnormalities.

4.    Kidney stones: Kidney stones are small deposits that accumulate in the kidneys. They are medically known as Nephrolithiasis. They are formed due to the crystallization of minerals and waste materials found in urine. When the urine becomes concentrated, these minerals stick together and crystallize to form stones.

5.    Polycystic kidney disease: It is a genetic disorder that causes several cysts to grow in or around the kidneys. These cysts make the kidneys grow large and can also lead to kidney failure. PKD affects both genders, men and women.

6.    Urinary tract infection: Urinary tract infections (UTI) are bacterial infections in any part of the urinary tract. It causes redness, swelling, and pain in the urinary tract. If the infection is not treated properly, the bacteria can multiply and make the condition worse.
