It is the ultimate goal of website owners to have their webpages on the first page of a search engine's results. For a webpage to rank higher in a search engine's results, one must design SEO strategies and apply them to the webpage content.

Keywords are one of the main elements to search engine optimization, or SEO for short. They are what users type into the search engine bar. For one who uses SEO for their sites, their main mission is to make sure that their pages become the most closely associated with the keywords.

Researching for the keywords for a brand to capitalize can be a daunting task. Those new to planning the keywords may find themselves at a quandary on the right ones to use. Too broad terms can have too many competitors. They also need to take into account their field of specialization and the locations that they will target.

Many businesses do not have the time and resources to work on their site's SEO by themselves, hence the need for search engine service providers

SEO providers do not work on their own, however. They start by making use of some of these basic tools to find the most effective keywords to use for themselves or their client:

Google

Being the premier search engine on the Internet, Google itself offers SEO tools for service providers, such as:

  • Google Analytics - allows a user to track keywords and how they attract traffic to their website

  • Google Adwords - it is not strictly a keyword tool, but the data gathered from keyword search results can be used for organic SEO. It has a built-in keyword planner which lets marketers study the performance of a certain group of keywords. It can also generate a new set of keywords by compiling other lists together into one.

A downside to using only Google tools is that despite being nigh indispensible, they have been shown to be less accurate than other third-party tools.

UberSuggest

This tool can provide keywords that Google Keyword Planner cannot. UberSuggest can provide a thousand keywords from a single search word, giving SEO providers struggling with keywords new ideas.

Keyword Tool

Another alternative to Keyword Planner, Keyword Tool gives keyword suggestions for different websites. It does not cater only to Google, but also other sites such as Youtube, eBay, Amazon, and Bing.

Keyword Shitter

Despite it's unconventional name, Keyword Shitter literally dumps a load of keyword suggestions, from 1-word keywords to long-tail keywords. It also has a basic interface, forgoing the bells and whistles that other keyword tools have.

RankTank

This website features a variety of free SEO tools. One can find tools for keyword suggestions to trackers. Users can also contribute to the site and upload their own tools for others to use as well.

Search engine service providers have the expertise to create SEO strategies for their client. This does not mean that they can think of the best keywords with their own knowledge. Without the use of free or paid tools, they may never be able to fully optimize a webpage and its content for SEO.
