Key Features Of A Good Hauler Trailer

by Luis Jimenez Auto Transport And Manufacturing Business
Car trailers are important equipment's used for a variety of purposes such as delivering serviced cars from one location to another, towing damaged vehicles, etc. However, there are several risks involved in driving a trailer which include accidents, injuries and property damage. Moving around with a bad trailer is just as dangerous as driving a car or truck in stoned condition. Therefore, it is essential to have car trailers in Texas that are really safe to drive and furnished with all the vital parts properly.

Frame :
The frame, and the material which has been used for making it, play a very important role. Three primary steel shapes are generally used for constructing the frame of a trailer – box tubing, angle iron and channel iron. Box tubing is best as it is capable of resisting a great deal of flexing and twisting. Angle iron is the worst among them all because it flexes and twists a lot. If box tubing seems too expensive, it is generally advised to opt at least for a combination of box tube and channel iron.

Tongue Length :
This is another important factor which must be taken into consideration. Longer tongues make it easier to steer the trailer for the vehicle towing it. If the tongue is short, however, it should account for at least 15 percent of the total weight.

Coupler :
When a coupler is being hooked to the towing vehicle, care must be taken to make sure that it attaches safely with zero sloppiness and does not remain in a bent or twisted position.

Tail lights :
Good tail lights are bright, durable, need low maintenance and consumes less power. They should be furnished with adequate amount of protection against potential damages.

Wiring :
It is important for the tail light wires to pass through the trailer’s frame at a point. They must also be well-protected with grommets against chafing onto metal, otherwise a short circuit can be inevitable.

Axle :
Axles from used mobile homes must be avoided, because they are very stiff. Moreover, people using them often have a hard time in finding replacements, tires, wheels and wheel bearings. It is important to ensure that the axles are properly connected to suspension instead of being welded onto the frame.

Tires and Wheels :
The tires and wheels should be rated in such a way that their combined capacity is either equal or more than the trailer’s GVWR. It is recommended to avoid 14.5-inch wheels. Tires rated 6 ply have better capacity due to their thick sidewalls.
