Background checks are necessary from the security point of view. They ensure proper evaluation of the applicants or employees, checking their criminal history. DOJ (Department of Justice) FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) performs the background check in case of issuing licenses, employment letter or other certifications which requires legal action. Given below are a few key aspects of Doj Fbi Background Check which are good know: -

In the process of a background check, the applicants must fill the live scan request form provided by his or her agency. After filling the form, it has to be taken to the live scan operator for further processing. Live scan fingerprint is performed by using a fingerprint roller or by other means in the course of a background check.

The images of the live scan fingerprint are sent to the DOJ. The DOJ then performs a search in their fingerprint database against the provided fingerprint images. The RAP sheet is reviewed in order to check if there is any complaint registered under the application's name or given fingerprint. In case if any deposition of arrest is found, the DOJ conducts thorough research on it. They approach the district attorney offices or equivalent authorities to evaluate the type of arrest. If not, the relevant information is gathered from the district attorney, then the DOJ seeks help from the court of law to find out if the applicant's case if it was recorded there. After deep analysis on each and every step, the DOJ prepares a report and sends it to the applicant's agency.

In case, the FBI level check is requested, then the fingerprint images are sent to the FBI. The FBI performs a background check by searching the applicant's fingerprint images against the national criminal history database. If the FBI finds any match in their record, then they send the cumulative RAP report to the DOJ. Cumulative RAP sheet basically contains the details of the criminal history of the applicant. In case, if there is no match found in the FBI's criminal record, then also the DOJ has to perform check from other means to obtain depositional information which is missing from the record.

The authorized agencies are expected to provide the written notification to the individual whose fingerprint is sent for a background check before sending it to FBI for criminal record investigation. The applicant must be given a fair amount of time to correct or complete their record and till that time their license or employment should not be cancelled.

Poor fingerprint quality could alter the results obtained from DOJ FBI background check; thus, it is important to make sure that the fingerprints are recorded properly.
