Keeping Cool as Summer Heats Up

by Kevin Smith Author

The temperatures are starting to rise; and with higher temps comes the need to keep cool. So, if your air-conditioning is on the fritz, now is the perfect time to get it repaired or replaced. Do you have someone who does air conditioning repair in Gainesville, GA? If you do, you’re one step ahead of the game already. But if not, finding one might require a little bit of shopping around.

How Do You Find the Right Service Tech for You?

Most places will give you a free estimate on your repair, which is important if you aren’t in the midst of a heatwave and have a little time to spare. But if it’s 100 degrees outside with high humidity, you may not want to wait, and instead, opt for the first technician who returns your call.

That is something else that’s important: if your AC fails after hours, or on a holiday or weekend, you’ll want to know if they provide 24/7 service and how much their after-hours rate is. In some cases, the amount can be staggering, and you may want to wait with the repair until they resume business the next day. If you are going to have them perform an “emergency” visit, ask how quickly a technician can be at your home.

Of course, some things you should consider are common-sense things: are they experienced, honest and do good work? You can ask family, friends and co-workers if they’re familiar with any good AC repair people or know anything about the company you’re thinking of hiring. You should also check them out with the state licensing agency, the Better Business Bureau and any online rating or review services. Your municipality may also be familiar with them and can possibly tell you if they company is one in good standing.

Besides being licensed, make sure whoever you hire is insured and bonded, and get a copy of their insurance and bonding documents before you allow them to begin the work.

Finally, ask any company you’re thinking of hiring if they belong to any professional organizations. Those who are generally have technicians who are trained in the latest industry technologies and advancements. They are likely well-versed in all types of AC repairs and able to service all makes and models of AC units.

A Little More About Pricing

As discussed earlier, after hours service calls can often result in significant overtime charges. That said, there are some repairs services out there who charge the same rate no matter when the service call is made. And for folks who work typical daytime hours, they may offer flexible hours for repair jobs. A service who offers that kind of specialized pricing or service hours will most likely advertise it because that’s a big draw for people who need service at odd hours, or who can’t necessarily afford huge overtime charges.

But ask any company offering air-conditioning repair in Gainesville, GA, that you end up calling if they do have flexible repair hours and charge the same fees no matter when the service is done. You’ll never know unless you ask.
