Keep It Cool: Must-Have Swimming Pool Features

by Kevin Smith Author

Creating your dream swimming pool means getting all the details right. These days, a flimsy diving board made of plastic is no longer a cool accessory. Some modern and trendy built-in features can transform it from something that looks generic to a unique, elegant spot in your home.

Read on to learn about the must-have features for your home's swimming pool.

Tanning Ledge

Give it an air of sophistication by adding a tanning ledge. This shelf lets you unwind in style in a separate shallow spot that's usually 5 feet wide and 9 inches deep. It serves as an entry point and can span the full width of the pool's entrance or extend it partially. It's an ideal place to take in some sunlight and let kids safely play around. You can also add retractable umbrellas or lounge chairs to make it the ultimate area for relaxing.

Built-In Spa

Imagine having a nice swimming pool to cool off during warm days while also having a hot tub for the colder seasons. With a built-in spa, you can enjoy both. Apart from that, they're good for easing muscle tension and promoting harmony between the body and mind.

There are a few types for you to choose from, depending on what pool you have. Some of the most common forms of built-in spas are:

·         Gunite Spa - You can have this installed all by itself or connected to a large swimming pool so they can share the heating and filtration systems. This is the most expensive type but offers plenty of options for size, shape, and design.

·         Fiberglass Spa - This type offers the recreational and health benefits of a spa for a lower price. It's designed with a wide range of jets, recliner, armrests, and pillows.

·         Spools - A combination of a pool and spa, it's a larger option that can accommodate 8 to 10 people.  It can stay cool during the summer and warm in the winter.

Grotto

This elaborate feature dates back to the Roman era and is built as a cave-like structure surrounding a spa. Grottos are usually made with artificial rocks and typically designed with a waterfall or a slide. You can add this to your pool as a beautiful getaway that'll make you feel like you're in another world.

Automatic Cover

This is an essential feature for those with little kids or pets running around to prevent them from accidentally slipping into the water. This will also keep it free from falling leaves or debris. Once you're ready to use your pool, you can easily retract the covers.

Any of these features can add some sophistication and style to your home's most relaxing area. Companies that design custom pools in Atlanta will help you install these aspects or integrate it into your initial building plan.
