Jewish Museums You Should Visit

by Kosher River Cruise Kosher Tour Operator
Visiting museums is a must for every individual. You can learn more about history, art, political and social issues, and more.

Museums can make you smarter as well since museums can provide an effective way of learning.

Some of the best museums to visit are those that exhibit materials that left a great impact in history – and this includes Jewish museums.

In this article, I will introduce to you three incredible Jewish Museums that you should visit when you embark on one of your Jewish Heritage tours

Jewish Museum, Berlin

Opened in 2001, the Jewish Museum Berlin exhibits both the political and cultural history of Jews in Germany. It offers dynamic exhibitions, programs for educational tours, events, and more. They also have a museum for kids in the form of Noah’s Ark. This museum is a must-visit because it explicitly shows the repercussions of the Holocaust post-war.

The museum has received multiple awards including the German Architecture prize and Buber Rosenweig Medal.

National Jewish Museum

When it comes to Jewish museums, Italy has plenty. This newly opened museum is a must-visit because of its history.

Before the construction of the building, there was no centralized institution in charge of the history of Jews in Italy.

The first intention was to build a national museum of Shoah. However, when Dario Disegni, President of the National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah, joined the project, the plans changed. Seeing the need to bridge the gap among the Jewish-Italy history, the institution opened an ambitious exhibit called “Jews, an Italian Story: The First Thousand Years”.

The exhibit aims to portray how the Jewish presence shaped the history of Italy.

The building was inspired by the Torah. There are five more buildings, also inspired by the five books of the Torah, and is expected to open in 2020.

Jewish Museum, Prague

This list wouldn't be enough without the Jewish Museum in Prague.  This museum has four historical synagogues: The Maisel Synagogue, Klausen Synagogue, Spanish Synagogue, and the major highlight of the museum, the Pinkas Synagogue, now called the Holocaust Memorial. You will see almost 80,000 names of Jews that perished during the Holocaust. Visitors are encouraged to visit the memorial of the Jews by reading all the names inscribed in there.

Aside from that, the museum also includes tours to the Old Jewish Cemetery and Robert Guttmann Gallery.
