JetBlue Sustainable Environmental Initiatives

countries. In the context of its concerns regarding environmental degradation,
the airline has adopted a number of activities which prevents this degradation
and contributes to environmental protection and conservation. A list of these
initiatives is given below.
The airline remains committed to the use of renewable jet fuel. Use of this fuel has contributed to the reduction of CO2 emissions by 1.73%. While the airline has not made a total shift to the renewable fuels, it has been working on another front of reducing 500000 gallons of fuel every year. This reduction in consumption is possible by investing in the NextGen technologies which are more efficient at fuel consumption. At the same time, the airline has bought 3 billion pounds of CO2 offsets which further cements its commitment to reduction of greenhouse gases in environment.
The airline has been making efforts to make its operations sustainable. This includes have a more environmentally sustainable fleet of airplanes. This means those airplanes which are more efficient at fuel consumption, compatible with renewable fuels and made of such materials and design which can be recycled.
Besides having sustainable fleet, the airline also has plans to use that ground equipment which runs on electric power and not on fossil fuels. As shift to electric equipment happens, there is a need for having sufficient charging stations at various locations within a facility. The airline has plans for developing these as well.
Further, the waste that is generated during the process
shall be recycled or turned into composites for some use. This waste management
methods are also initiated by the airline.
Construction of better buildings is another way in which the
airline seeks to make operations sustainable. The airports shall be designed in
such a way which facilitates urban farming and has green spaces. This allows
for efficient use of space for organic farming.
Jetblue also believes that it has a duty to promote
sustainability in tourism as well. As airlines and flights are one of the
components of a larger field of travel and tourism, sustainability needs to be
extended to other products and services within tourism. JetBlue is committed to
investment in these other segments of tourism. As you must have noticed, it
allows online booking through its website or mobile application. The JetBlue reservations sends electronic
air tickets in emails and the same can be downloaded in smartphones and shown
at the airports for easy travel. This prevents use of paper tickets which
further goes to prevention of deforestation.
