JEE Main 2016 AIR – CBSE successfully conducted JEE Main 2016 on 3, 9, and 10 April 2016 to offer admission in B. Tech program to qualified candidates. All the participating institutes will grant seats on the basis of merit, which will be determined by the performance of candidates. There are two scales to judge a candidate in the exam – first is obtained aggregate score and second is All India Rank, which will correspond to the marks and is often shortened to AIR. The board has already declared marks of the appeared candidates on 27 April 2016 and it will declare the ranks on or before 30 June 2016.

Where scorecard showed section wise score and aggregate score, JEE Main 2016 AIR will show the rank of a candidate according to his aggregate marks in JEE Main 2016 and qualifying examination. The ratio in which marks of these two exams will be considered and assessed is 60:40. This rank will be assigned by placing him in the merit list drawn for all the candidates who appeared in the exam and qualified it. All the SFTIs, GFTIs, IIITs, NITs, and other leading engineering cum technological institutes will check a candidate’s AIR to determine his section on the available seat.

It must also be noted here that rank is inversely proportional to score hence higher score will result into lower rank in the JEE Main 2016 Merit List. The process of checking JEE Main 2016 All India Rank is simple and quite similar to the process of checking the scorecard. Candidate has to access the official website of CBSE and click the link relevant to AIR. Once this link is clicked, he will be asked to enter his roll number, application number, and date of birth. On submission of these details, JEE Main 2016 AIR will be displayed on the screen. Candidate can proceed to take printout of the rank card on an A4 sheet. It must be kept safe to produce later when demanded.

Not only the rank card will show all India rank, but it will also show – all India categorical rank, state rank, and state categorical rank. The last two ranks will be considered by the state counselling committee for allotment purpose. Counselling through CSAB will only check a candidate’s JEE Main 2016 AIR for allotment. It may happen that two or more candidates score equal marks in the examination, at this instance, a rank breaker formula will be applied to resolve the issue. For this the following factors will be checked (in order of application) – marks in math in JEE Main 2016, marks in physics in JEE Main 2016, higher normalized score in JEE Main 2016, and comparison of negative and positive marks.
