Is Working in the Bodyguard Industry for You?

Being a bodyguard is fun and exciting. It offers a great way of life, offering lots of worldwide travel. If you completed your executive protection training from a reputable school, it also pays quite handsomely—as of 2021, the average bodyguard salary in the United States is $64,338; however, the salary range typically falls between $58,243 and $73,355. The negatives?
Well, as a bodyguard, you may sometimes feel as though your suitcase is your only home and room service is your only company. You may also be required to make multiple personal sacrifices, such as missing holidays, anniversaries, and family events. If you mind constant travel, being away from home for several days (or even months) at a time, and working irregular hours, then being a bodyguard is probably not the best profession for you.
Do you have the skills and training needed?
- Physically fit
- The ability to work as part of a team and independently when necessary
- Excellent observation skills
- Strategic planning skills
- Competence in facilitating interaction and communication with others
- The ability to remain calm and composed under pressure
If you have these qualities, a job in the bodyguard industry may be a good match for you. If not, this will be a difficult road to travel.
It is not enough to have the necessary skills. You must also get proper training from a reputable bodyguard school. First aid, risk assessment, unarmed combat, counter-surveillance, security driving, and site surveys are some of the most common training modules.
Being a bodyguard is not for everyone. During your professional career as a bodyguard, you will experience many ups and downs, but you will also have a lot of fun in the industry. Godspeed!
