Is the Jaguar XK the Sports Car for You?

The number of sports cars on the market has increased rapidly over the last few years.  This has made it more difficult to choose the right one for your needs.  In fact, it can be exceptionally difficult to choose the right sports car; there are top end, high performance iconic names, such as Porsche and Aston Martin.  The Jaguar XK can compete directly with these vehicles.  At the other end of the scale there are a range of well designed budget sports cars.  The Mazda MX-5 often gets excellent reviews and is great fun to drive; although not quite in the same leagues as the top end ones.

Viewing

Accessories

Assuming you are purchasing a pre-owned vehicle you will be stuck with the options that have already been added.  It is possible to add some equipment after the car has been produced but many items will not integrate as perfectly as when completed by the factory.  Once you have narrowed your search to the type of car you wish to buy then you will need to consider which options are available and which of these you consider to be essential.  This will help you to pick the right vehicle.

Statement

Not all sports cars are the same!  The Porsche stands out and screams ‘sports car’ to anyone looking.  The Jaguar XK is a stylish looking vehicle which demands attention but in a more subtle manner.  It is still a car to be reckoned with.  You will need to decide whether you want to be blatant or subtle.  If you prefer to be understated the Jaguar XK may be just the right car for you.

Convertible

The XK, like most sports cars, is a two seat vehicle and can be purchased in either coupe mode or as a soft top.  The convertibles are usually fractionally slower and you may feel slightly more flex in the vehicle, especially when being driven hard.  It has been said that the convertible offers a better appreciation of the sound of the engine as it runs through the rev range and the exhaust pops and crackles on the way back down.  There is not a right or wrong choice, simply the right one for you and your needs.

Power

The XK comes with a choice of engines, all will provide a good driving experience but you may prefer to take the top of the range version.  This option should be considered in conjunction with the budget you have available and the likely cost of insurance.  If neither of these is an issue then buy the fastest one and enjoy!
