Is Singapore Prepared For a Possible Cyber Attack?
One cannot deny from the fact that the advancement of the technology has brought major changes in positive ways. This has helped us improving our living standards as well as increasing the productivity without putting too many efforts. Apart from rendering so many benefits, these technological changes have also led to negative effects. This is mainly in the case of internet. Whereas internet has made millions of users worldwide to connect to each other without actually visiting to their place, it has also made their personal information exposed online. This information can be accessed by the hackers.
Singapore and Cyber
Attack
The recent situation has given clear indications that the digital world is prone to cyber threats. Not just one or two countries but the entire nation is at risk of these cyber attacks. One of the countries that is at higher risk is Singapore, which has always been in the media for adopting all the latest technologies in both in private as well as public sectors. This made it the country an epicenter of hacking. The whole situation raises a need of knowing whether the country is ready to fight with these cyber attacks or not
Singapore Companies
are not ready
Besides knowing the level of cyber-attacks, it has been observed that approximately 91% of the Singapore companies are not ready to fight with the continuously growing cyber attacks. Keeping in view this need, most of the companies are taking important steps for providing their devices high level protection against the cyber attacks. However, one cannot deny from the fact that most of the companies are still at an initial stage of having protection against the online threats.
According to a survey by Quann, a renowned security service provider in Asia Pacific, has observed a big gap in the cyber security awareness and the implementation of the entire online protection to deal with all kinds of online threats and attacks. Apart from the cyber security, one more topic was covered under this survey of figuring out the level of preparedness against the online attacks and the result of which were even worsen. In the report, it was clear that the companies are not investing sufficient funds for implementing the IT security services.
Most of the observed companies use basic security solution to protect their PC only from the normal online threats. However, for big issues that can result in corruption of their entire device and data can be fixed only with the help of strong antivirus from renowned brands, such as Norton. Norton Internet Security can do wonders when it comes to safe online browsing and complete PC protection from online attacks.
The companies in Singapore have also been found lacking in the solutions to detect or diagnose the cyber threats, including spyware, malware, Trojan Horses, phishing scams and more. In short, it is clear that the present situation of the companies in this country is at a risk of facing a cyber attack at any moment of the day.
The Proposed Measures
To deal with this situation, a new cyber law has been proposed for banks as well as other important market sectors. This proposed bill will need all the important sectors, including banks to immediately report an attack after its occurrence. The security experts have also proposed the plan that as soon as the users detect a cyber attack, they have to send an alert to Commissioner of cyber security and they will then take further actions. The same case is for the banks and other market sectors. They have also been advised to cooperate with the cyber attacks investigation and have been asked to share the required details as and when needed.
The proposed bill also focuses at explaining a fine line between the cyber attacks on the public sectors as well as to the private sectors, including telecoms, transportation and banks. Its second motive was to provide complete protection against the cyber attacks as well as crimes like Symantec does with its antivirus software. The proposed bill also aimed at not disturbing the normal functioning of the necessary services for the users, during the investigation and resolving the threats as well as online attacks.
The proposed bill is under the public consultation until 3rd December 2017 and if it gets approved it will help the public and private sectors in Singapore to deal with all the possible cyber attacks with the best security solutions. The defined rules and regulations in the bill are set to help the country become highly secure against the cyber threats and cyber crime.
