Is E Liquid Bad for Health?

by Andrew M. Vape Blogger

People compare vaping to smoking. Vaping was introduced as a safer alternative to smoking traditional tobacco-based cigarettes. A large group of vapers is ex-smokers. Perhaps it is why bulk e liquid companies continue to rise.

While vaping is 95% safer than smoking, many people scrutinize vape liquid due to its blend of chemical compounds. But studies show that people can safely consume it.

The presence of diketones in e juice erupted a controversy not too long. People started to relate the product to a lethal lung condition called popcorn lung. However, few e juice brands use diketones in their products, which may be none since the controversy. Most reputed brands avoid adding this chemical to their vape juices.

  • What Chemicals do E-juice Contain?

It comprises a few ingredients. Let’s start with propylene glycol or PG, a suspension ingredient that facilitates converting nicotine into an aerosol for vapers to inhale. The FDA recognizes it as safe for consumption.

Next is vegetable glycerin or VG. It is similar to PG because it is also a suspension ingredient. It comes from palm kernels, and people can find it in different consumables.

Some bulk e liquid may contain flavorings. These usually include diketones like diacetyl, acetyl propionyl, and acetoin, which are harmful to the body. Diacetyl causes bronchiolitis obliterans (popcorn lung).

Although it can be argued that vape liquid recipes are not entirely risk-free, they are much safer than cigarettes. Diacetyl in traditional cigarettes is available in larger quantities than e liquids. Additionally, e juice companies stopped using it in their products in 2015.

The last ingredient in e liquid is nicotine. Everybody knows what it is; a plant-based alkaloid derived from tobacco, potatoes, and tomatoes. It is an addictive substance that makes quitting cigarettes difficult.

  • Do All Vape Juices Contain Nicotine?

Almost every tobacco product contains nicotine. This chemical affects the brain, which makes smoking and vaping addictive. Any e cigarette has about 0.5 to 15.4 mg of it a user can consume in approximately 15 draws.

However, there is a new substance now - tobacco-free nicotine or TFN. It isn’t tobacco-derived but synthetic nicotine that replicates the smell and taste of the original but is safer for inhaling. If a vaper enjoys vaping flavors and not nicotine, they can buy nicotine-free bulk e liquid and DIY it.

Vapers must choose the nicotine strength before ordering their liquids. Proper nicotine levels ensure a better and safer vaping experience.
