Rangat Andaman: Rangat is situated in Middle Andaman at a distance of 170 kms. by road and 93 km. by sea from Port Blair. It is the tehsil headquarter and a developing town. It takes five hours to reach Rangat from Port Blair by bus and around eight hours by boat, Rangat is very near Jarawas reserved areas. It is understood that the villages very near to reserved area are visited by the Jarawas during the night. They steal i coconuts, clothes, particularly red coloured clothes, iron items, utensils, bananas etc. The population of Rangat is 33,368, mainly rural asper 1991 census. Rangat has all infrastructural facilities. The settlers are mainly Tamilians, Malayalis Bengalis, etc.
Vehicle ferrys help the transport to cross the two current water creeks namely Middle Strait Jetty and Uttara Jetty. In six kms from Rangat, there is a beautiful beach called Amkunj beach with a total length of about 1 kms and width of 40 mts. This beach is surrounded by tropical rain forest. One more beach near the Rangat is Chatbut Bay which has a turtle nesting ground. All turtles come to this beach and hatch their eggs 70-150 at a stretch, during full moon days. This is really worth seeing.
Tourists can stay in the guest house owned by the APWD,
under the control of Executive Engineer, Rangat, with the prior permission of
the Chief Engineer, Port Blair. A cook is attached with the guest house. He will
provide all Indian dishes at normal rate on order. Recently, a private lodge
came in existence where, too, tourists can stay at reasonable tariff. There are
some other good hotels (only eating places) near the bus stand. They, too,
proviide good food at reasonable rates. Tourists have to place an order in
advance in case of any special items they want, like prawn fry, costly fish
like surmai, chicken items, etc.

Barren Island Andaman: Barren Island Andaman is situated at a distance of 135 kms by sea. It is an uninhabited island. The only active volcano in India is in this Island named 'Barren Island Volcano'. It errupted twice in the recent past, once in 1991 and again in 1994-95 after 177 years. This Island, about three kms in diameter, has a big crater of volcano, which raises abruptly from the sea, about half kms from the shore and is about 150 fathoms deep. At present, the volcano is again dormant. Tourists cannot go to this island. However, with the permission of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, one can go here for some academic purpose.
