Influence of SIP trunking on Session Border Controllers

by Grace Dervishi Business
With the deployment of Session initiation protocol or SIP in various organizations, they face lots of difficulties due to this. SIP is used in most of the developed as well as developing countries, and helps connect the internet with a PBX through Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). This is now the replaced version of conventional telephone which was used earlier. SIP trunking is the most essential part of IP phones and poses several compatibility challenges and securities with full tenacity.

In the era of new generation startups and technologies, a device, deployed regularly in VoIP network system, highly exerts its control over the media streams and signaling for tearing down and making phone calls, has been developed. These are the session border controllers or SBC, which give the advancing technology some more challenges to face and compete with other large countries worldwide. These are utilized as a router and help connect carrier network and customer, allow several authorized sessions pass smoothly through border. Its quality of Service (QoS) functions ensures hassle free calling during emergency condition.

In a recent Webtorials’s survey, this has been seen that the principle role of SBC involves securities in different SIP trunking sessions. Reason behind this is various DDoS attacks, cyber securities and threats, which have now become most important matter of concern. Risks are associated when IP networks are connected with the phone for different purposes. Use of VPNs (Virtual Private Network) or MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) are widely used in many developed countries for minimizing the risks involved in it. However, SBC still is considered as the most significant addition to VoIP. Hybrid and distributed solutions of new generation combine various cloud-based and on-premises systems and help advocate geographically dispersed customers or users.

Direct Inward dialing (DID): This service is widely used by various phone companies thus provides lots of telephone number blocks. These are mainly used for calling the PBX (Private Branch exchange) system of that specific company. Most of the developed countries, such as Oceania, Europe, use these DID numbers and telecommunication services offered by those PBX operated companies in order to connect with the outsiders for various business purposes.

Singapore DID numbers help their business persons and local natives better communicate with foreign business industry leaders, for the sake of their company and for gaining huge business growth worldwide. Interoperability between various PBX systems and VoIP systems can also be improved with continuous use of Session border controllers. Now, with maximum utilization of SIP trunking systems, heavy growth in the E-SBC market has also been seen and their sales are boosted by minimum cost-per-session when compared with the traditional gateways of TDM and VoIP.
