Industrial jaw crushers: used widely as primary and secondary crushing equipment

by Barkha Pahuja SEO/Writer
Industrial jaw crushers are the machines that are used for the rapid and powerful crushing and even pre-crushing of medium, hard, brittle and tough materials. The main fields of application of industrial jaw crushers are construction materials, metallurgy and mineralogy, ceramics and glass, materials research and environmental analysis. These machines are trusted for their high quality and good manufacturing. The industrial jaw crushers are extensively applied to crush high hardness, mid hardness and soft rocks and ores such as construction materials, slag, marble, black trap, basalt, granite, river gravel, bauxite, hard rock, limestone, coal, iron ore, manganese ore, etc.

An industrial jaw crusher uses compressive force for breaking of particles. And this mechanical pressure is achieved by the two jaws of the crusher of which one jaw is fixed while the other jaw reciprocates. The machine consists of a set of vertical jaws, one jaw is kept stationary and is called a fixed jaw while the other jaw moves back and forth relative to it and is called a swing jaw. The cavity between the two jaws in the crusher is the crushing chamber. The movement of the swing jaw can be quite small, so complete crushing is not performed in one stroke. The machine comprises a flywheel that moves a shaft to create an eccentric motion to close the gap thereby providing the inertia to crush the material.

The industrial jaw crushers are heavy duty machines and are made up of cast iron or steel. The jaws are usually constructed from cast steel. The jaws are fitted with replaceable liners which are made up of manganese steel or Ni-Cr alloyed cast iron.

Working principle of industrial jaw crushers: -

In an industrial jaw crusher, the motor transmits power through belt and drives the moving jaw to do periodic motion towards the fixed jaw by the eccentric shaft. When moving jaw moves, the angle between toggle plate and moving jaw plate increases. So the moving jaw moves towards the fixed jaw and the stuff will be crushed in this process. When moving jaw moves down, the angle between toggle plate and moving jaw decreases. The moving jaw moves and leaves the fixed jaw by pulling rod and spring. By this process, the final crushed stuff will be discharged from the outlet.

The industrial jaw crushers are classified into the followings: -

• Blake crusher: - In this crusher, the swing jaw is fixed at the upper position
• Dodge crusher-In this crusher, the swing jaw is fixed at the lower position
• Universal crusher-In this crusher, the swing jaw is fixed at an intermediate position

Some of the common features of the industrial jaw crushers: -

• These machines are simple in structure.
• They are known for easy maintenance.
• They have flexible capacity.
• They have stable performance overloading protection.
• They are known for high efficiency and low operation cost.
• They have a high crushing ratio.
• These machines are available in compact designs.
• They are rust proof.
