Indian E Visa: Types, Eligibility, Validity, and Procedure Explained

The introduction of e-Visa has metamorphosed the tourism sector in India. It has allowed the citizens of specific 166 countries who wish to visit the country for a short period with a particular purpose to obtain the visa conveniently in less amount of time. They no longer need to follow the prolonged process of attending an interview at the embassy and wait for a long duration to receive the approval notification. To obtain this form of visa, the entire steps from the application form to approval will proceed with the online process. Citizens of the permitted countries can apply for an Indian e visa online and relax to wait for the approval.

Types

Since 2017, the e-tourist visa scheme has been structured by the Indian Government into e-visa. It has three different categories that comprise of e-Tourist visa, e-Business visa, and e-Medical visa. Each of the visa categories has unique facilities, eligibility criteria, and validity.

The scheme also allows those patients visiting India for health check-ups and treatment purposes to bring a family member through an e-Medical Attendant Visa facility. Officials can also avail of e-Conference visa, which is under the e-Visa program, to attend conferences and meetings for a specific period in India.

Eligibility

As said above, citizens of the 166 countries are permitted to obtain the e-Visa or the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Citizens of Nepal and Bhutan need no visa at all to enter the country. Those applicants with parents and grandparents of Pakistan origin or currently lives there will not be eligible for the e-Visa. Even if citizens of the said 166 countries can avail of this visa type if they have such conditions. However, it doesn't mean there is no possible way to enter the country. They can still apply for a regular visa.

Validity

The e-Tourist visa is of three different types of validities. With a one-month validity visa type, one can make double entries within thirty days. Tourists can enjoy multiple times entry with e-Tourist visas of one and five-year validity. E-Business visas for business officials and marketers provide the validity of one year and can visit the country multiple times within the permitted period. Visitors with e-Medical and e-Medical attendant visas will have the visa validity for sixty days with triple times entry in between. On the other hand, the E-conference visa endows a validity of thirty days only starting from the date of entering the country. However, they can visit only once with such a visa type.

No applicants can extend the validity or convert these e-visas.

Procedure

The entire process for applying the e-visa is applicable online. It is always advisable to submit the application form at least four days before their date of departure and not earlier than 120 days. Make sure that the provided information in the application form matches with those in your documents. You should upload a passport-sized photograph with a white background, along with a copy of the personal information page of the passport. The passport should have a validity of not less than six months. After paying the visa application fee, you will receive an ETA and an application ID.
