Indian Blind Cricket Team: Rising Out Of All The Odds
The
honorable Board of Cricket Control in India has stated to award a cash prize of
whopping 1 crores to the Indian Blind Cricket Team. This is on account of their
victory in the recently held T20 World Cup, where they defeated the Pakistani
team by a margin of 9 wickets.
Though
associated with the most famous sport in India, Indian Blind Cricket Team has not
received a flashy support from the spectators and even the government
officials. Though they surpassed all the odds to win the second consecutive T20
World Cup, they could not fight the political odds to encash their victory to
prize money. Let us discuss a bit about the Blind Cricket that is trending
these days and let us look at the journey of the Indian team, all through it
came to be known.
Blind Cricket:
Blind
Cricket is the form of game of cricket which encompasses players having vision
impairment. The blind ones or those who have partial viewing ability are
allowed to take part in it and this is governed by World Blind Cricket Council
(WBCC) since 1996.
Though,
the art of Blind Cricket was invented way back in Melbourne in the year 1922 by
two blind workers from a factory. Soon after this, it was the birth of ‘Victorian
Blind Cricket Association’ in the same year and it also led to the commencement
of first sports ground and clubhouse for the blinds at Kooyong in Melbourne.
The
first Test Cricket Match for the blind was held between South Africa and
Pakistan, where Pakistan won the match by a margin of 94 runs.
The
Indian Blind Cricket team too is a part of WBCC and is run by Cricket
Association for the Blind in India (CABI). The team takes part in all the One
Day International and T20 matches.
