India: Luxury or Adventure, you are Spoiled for Choice

by Rubi Ahsan Associate S.E.O Consultant

Annually, there are more than 560 million domestic tourists and nearly 5 million international tourists visiting India. Tourism infrastructures of all kinds are booming and make it possible to travel very comfortably across the country - always bearing in mind however that India is made up of surprises.

India can therefore be discovered in different ways. It is important to emphasize, however, that these different ways of exploring the country are not exclusive and that if budget, health and taste for adventure are present, a trip can easily combine many of these modes of exploration.

Maharaja tourism

In contrast to the "rucksack" tourism, it is possible to discover India as if we were a real pasha, a maharaja. Before 1947, the subcontinent consisted of 527 princely kingdoms and each had at least a palace to house the maharaja.

As a result of the independence of the country, these kingdoms were integrated into the new republic and their leaders had to abdicate their political power. The latter, however, owned their palace (s), and some took advantage of it by converting them into a luxury hotel with all the charm and decor of yesteryear: multiple servants in clothes and turban, sumptuous meals served in dishes Silver and porcelain, and even, in some places (like the palace of Udaipur), the possibility of eating with the maharaja himself (or rather, his descendant).

The Indian government also offers several tours aboard the Maharaja Express, a special train, with room equipped with a bathroom, a TV and air conditioning, or aboard an entire wagon constituting an independent suite, With bath, shower, bedroom and dining room. This train leaves Delhi or Mumbai and, depending on the tour, visits several historical cities of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. We travel by night, and by day the train is chartered at the local railway station. Packages for a seven-night tour cost US $ 7,000 to US $ 24,000. This tourism of great luxury allows an incursion into what may resemble what was princely life pre-independence, but it does not really allow to get in touch with the population.

Adventure tourism In India

Increasingly popular with both Indians and foreigners, adventure tourism is establishing itself as a real industry in India. Several trekking tours are offered to the enthusiasts of walking and mountains and are generally more rustic and less frequented than those of Nepal.

The Indian portion of the Himalayas covers an immense territory, and the possibilities of treks are numerous in Ladakh, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand or Sikkim. These same areas can also be subjected to white water rafting, kayaking or pneumatics, hang-gliding or paragliding (accompanied or not).

Motorized expeditions through the mountains are also possible, the best known being the one that leaves from Manali and leads to Leh, a journey requiring the passage of the Taglang La pass at 5 328 m of altitude, one of the highest Passes in the world.

Several wildlife reserves also offer the possibility of photo safaris and extended stays in the Indian jungle; More than 3000 wildlife reserves and national parks are present on Indian Territory. If you already Trip planning in India Click Here: Holiday packages in India

The most important and popular are the Sundarbans, in West Bengal, where some tigers still roam; The Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, in Andhra Pradesh; The Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat; The Karakoram Wildlife Sanctuary in Jammuet-Kashmir; And the Periyar National Park (pictured above), in Kerala.
