Improving Your Shower Experience
by Richard Stroke Auburn Hills plumberNot enjoying your home’s shower is a common
problem for many homeowners. Whether it be a lackluster water pressure or
uninviting surround, there are plenty of changes that can be made to enhance
your showering experience.
One of the worst qualities in a lackluster shower
is water pressure. It is the number one complaint by people, even when they are
die-hard shower lovers. There are a couple of reasons that your water pressure
could not be measuring up to your expectations. Ask yourself, has it always been
this way, or is it a new thing? If it has always been that way, and you haven’t
changed the showerhead, it is possible you have a leak in the line not allowing
you to get the full amount of water you desire. A leak detection test from an Auburn
Hills plumber can give you a good indication of what the problem is.
If you have made changes to your showerhead, it
is likely you bought a low flow energy-saving model. With water conservation
being a significant priority in California, most places sell shower heads to
limit the amount of water used. Inside the tube of the shower head will be a
restrictor, which limits how much water can be used per minute. You can try at
your own risk, removing this ring, and regain the glorious water pressure you
once had, or simply buy a new one that doesn’t say low-flow.
Another common problem for the shower is a
clogged drain. If you have ever taken a shower only to realize it isn’t
draining as it should and you are ankle high in the water for a majority of
your shower time, it is likely there is a minor clog in the drain. With the
combination of oils, hair, and conditioner, these can matte up over time in the
pipe causing water not to flow the way it should. A plumber can quickly resolve
this issue, or you can try to plunger the drain the way you would with the
toilet.
Lastly, if you are unhappy with your showers appearance or desire a more luxurious one, replacing with a new surround or going for a full tile upgrade can drastically improve your experience. While this is more of a costly home improvement versus clearing a drain or replacing the showerhead, you may find that your overall love of the shower will exponentially grow. A new shower head cost under $50 and can make a difference in the quality, but for a massive change that may also add equity to your home a bathroom remodel is also a great solution.
