Importance of Waste Disposal and Management

Though all of them are certainly waste products, their management practices are totally different.
When it comes to the aspect of waste disposal methods, the management practices of developing and underdeveloped countries are far more different from the practices done in the developed countries, as these countries manages the waste efficiently. Segregating various kinds of wastes from the households, efficient waste collection systems, proper disposal, and sustainable recovery are very important in present scenario for a safe and better future. There are different waste disposal bin, kitchen waste bins, wheel waste bins etc. that helps in proper segregation of wastes.
Managing kitchen wastes or urban wastes is one of the major problems that are on rise in the urban areas. In India nearly 250kg of solid wastes per person is generated in a year an out of this waste 60% is made up of organic matter. The precious wet waste can potentially become black gold, but it remains as unusable junk inside our landfills and in addition it releases harmful toxin gases due to anaerobic decomposition. By mixing this organic waste with the recyclable waste (paper, plastic, metal), we make even the recyclable waste less recoverable. The citizens should take up the responsibilities of source segregation and composting to ensure a clean and garbage free city.
Why is waste segregation important?
The wastes will all mixed up in the landfills just like how they are mixed up in your bin if you are not going to segregate wastes properly. These wastes will decompose and may contaminate the land releasing leaks and gas that may be harmful to the environment.
To protect everybody’s health it is essential for us to segregate waste. Once your wastes are segregated in proper waste disposal bins, then it will be easier garbage collectors to recycle wastes. They can easily handle the wastes that will go to the recycler or to the incinerator.
How shall we segregate wastes at home?
Segregation of wastes must start at home. Below mentioned are some points which we should keep in mind for waste segregation and management.
• We must have a container for bio-degradable wastes.
• Throwing kitchen waste in proper kitchen waste bins is a good way of segregating and reducing waste. It is also one way of keeping the kitchen clean and free from bad odor.
• We must have a separate container for non-bio degradable waste.
• We may have at least 4 containers to store paper, plastic, glass and metal wastes.
If we can do this, then it will be very easy to figure out which ones will be recycled and reused.
