Importance of tourism in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The development of a particular state, place or a
destination fully depends on the people who live there. As quality of water
determines the quality of healthy life, the activity of the people determines
the quality and quantity of the development of the place. All economic
activities must, necessarily, be carried out by the people of the state for
better overall development. Tourism industry is a newly born infant, requiring
a lot of vitaminised economic activities. To study the nature, possibilities of
growth, prospects, etc., of the tourism activity of a particular destination,
it is important to know and visualize the characteristics of the population.
Major portion of the total tourism attractions consist of social, economic and
cultural activities including the fairs and festivals which are inherited.
Tourists are like growing children. They are very much interested in
discovering the new things. They are attracted by different activities of the
people from different places. Dresses, the way of dressing, likes and dislikes
, eating habits, ideas, adaptability, acceptability, hospitality etc., differ
from people to people. In Andaman and Nicobar Islands people from different
regions, religions, faiths etc., live in harmony with one another. It is the mini
India.
Tourism is one of the major industries in Andamans and is an
important source of earning for the locals , In the recent times the number of
tourists has increased multifolds in the islands and this is due to
connectivity and the fare correction by various airlines , also the other
reason is the development of the hotel and restaurant industry in the area ,
with the launch of Taj hotels in Havelock Island the luxury tourism in the area
would get a major boost .The local Government in the Andamans is working on
plans to improve the infrastructural facilities related to tourism and giving
the islands an international exposure through marketing at various
international travel fairs , For sure the numbers and the category of guests
visiting the islands would change in the near future.
