Importance of Co-Curricular Activities

Co-curricular activities help with the holistic development of the child aiding with the positive growth of the child. Education goes beyond the four walls of the classroom and covers several skills in its realm. Co-curricular activities help the child in achieving social skills, intellectual skills, personality progress, moral values, and character appeal. The various co-curricular activities conducted in every school are library activities, science lab activities, creative activities, cultural events, athletics, meditation, and yoga. It comes as the responsibility of the school to design the conduction of co-curricular activities in such a way that students are able to strike balance between both academics and co-curricular activities. 

Significance of Co-Curricular Activities for A Student

Co-curricular activities collaborate with academics to help students learn his/her lessons effectively. With activities like science and computer lab practical, experiments and projects, co-curricular activities help students learn the practical aspect of their subjects.

Co-curricular activities help students in learning cultural values. Various national events and cultural events organized by schools on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Republic Day, Independence Day, Eid, Holi, Diwali, Baisakhi, Onam, Raksha Bandhan allows students to learn about different faiths and religion. 

Activities like debates, recitation, group discussions, drama, declamation, help students in improving their expression skills, public speaking, communication skills, sense of belongingness, and participation skills. 

By involving students in activities like gymnastics, yoga, meditation, athletics, and indoor games co-curricular activities help students in staying fit and are also beneficial for their physical and mental health. 

Co-curricular activities are designed to let students team up with their classmates and form groups. This helps them in developing coordination skills, leadership skills, and team integrity. 

The ethical values about different faiths, religions, cultures, events of national and international importance, and the importance of discipline and school ethics are learned through co-curricular activities. Students also get to learn the value of qualities like patience, empathy, contentment, and compatibility. These values help students with the holistic development of their personalities. 

Co-curricular activities refine the young minds and nourish their talents by furnishing ample opportunities for them to develop their specialized skills. Schools organize various competitions to create competitive atmosphere and motivate students to walk towards the goal of achieving a better society.  

Co-curricular activities are fun and they make teaching as well as the learning experience thrilling for both the teacher and students and the best part is these activities are part of academics only. Classroom activities like quizzes, debates, group discussions, recitation, and other such academic games aid with the learning skills of the students in the classroom. These are some of the reasons why co-curricular activities are important for students and the best schools in India always encourage their students to be active in all fields and participate in co-curricular activities.
